Sorry for my many macbook threads.

So my question is this;

I have the 17" MBP 2010. I am seriously considering selling this and buying one of the new 13" Macbook Air's.

They seem very very powerful and will do most if not all the things my MBP does, plus I can cart it back and forth to Varsity.

Who owns one and what do you think about it? Can it be a viable replacement for a macbook pro?

The 17" has a way better GPU, not really an upgrade unless you need portability.

Said it in another thread, my I7 Alienware 17" is collecting dust, my air goes everywhere with me. I would have upgraded to the new model, I have a 2010 Air but am waiting to see if Apple/ Intel improve the GPU performance.

Lol, so what happened to you deciding not to sell it seeing you would take a big knock?

Ah Pooky, what we gonna do with you :D

I am now selling it again as I really need something portable fort varsity and the new airs look good. I am taking a knock but hopefully someone will buy it.

Tbh even the 13" mbp has way better everything, except screen resolution than the mba.

The 13" has the same GPU so I would rather go air if choosing 13", I would like an air too... but since I use a lot of space I have a 13" MBP 2010 and I added a 500GB HDD, something I can't do with the air.

Well if anyone wants a macbook it's in the classifieds (again)!

Fair enough - same GPU, much slower cpu in the air and as you say a piddly little drive. Plus more ports on the MBP (including firewire) and a super drive (which you can always remove and put another drive in its place).

The tricked out 13" MBA costs $100 more but that's ok because you get less. :D

Yes i have the 13" air.

The SSD in the Air can be upgraded done it myself. In fact I have a spare new 160 GB OWC mercury Aura Pro Express if anyone is looking for an upgrade. OWC supply up to 480GB for the Air.

How much would a 480 gb be? Prob more than a MacBook

Typing essays, email, browsing Internet, some music, some photoshop, some djing, some logic studio.
If the latter three are casual and ultimate portability is the main goal, then an Air is suitable.

The reviews I have seen of the new Air put it at better than the 2010 Macbooks in terms of speed at things like processing RAW files etc.

This is 2011 and the MacBook has been discontinued. ;)

For RAW conversion you want a fast cpu, gpu, and drive. The Air might come with a SSD but you can put one in any MBP, including your current MBP.

I meant Pro's, including mine.
