It's United States Postal Service... Don't think they deal with it once it gets to SA...?
No but if you have an international tracking number you call the post office who will give you a local one so you can still track the progress.

Got a letter thingy in my post box, so I had to go to Durmail to collect, then I got there and had to wait for the driver to get back.
I had to pay R580 or so for it, so I'm quite happy, the seller marked it's value as $500 and said it was a refurbished notebook.

Good for you. Lucky customs didn't cotton-on though, if they did, you probably would have had it confiscated.
I had an expensive camera lens confiscated last year. I had it repaired while I was in Australia under a local warranty then had a friend forward it to me. He included the warranty receipt in the package and mistakenly did not specify the lens' worth. SA customs then deemed it a fraudulent shipment. R2600, dozens of phone calls and 7 weeks later I got my lens.
If i hadn't kicked up a mighty stick with DHL and Customs, I would never have seen my lens again

When I've been sent a package without a value specified customs contacted me to inform me they could not release it without an indication of the value. All they required was a receipt/proof of payment from me or a statement of value from the sender.
Of course that is not the same as under-declaring the value, which is fraud.
