Macbook - SD card storage

I've been contemplating getting SD expansion for a while, these look a good deal. They don't have the 128GB model for the 13-inch rMBP though :/ Wonder if it's different to the 15-inch one?
 
Nice. I haven't seen them locally at all never mind at this decent price. One of Santa's list I reckon :)

I doubt they are different as all the SD card slots are the same size on MacBooks as far as I know?

Check the pics and you'll see that each one has a different length and they are all shorter than a standard SD card, some more than others.

It's the length of the card that changes as the depth of each SD slot on each machine is different. A standard SD card sticks out quite a bit and is easy to break if you leave it in all the time, so you need the correct one for your machine so it sits flush with the body and is more or less hidden and becomes 'permanent' storage.

Also looking through all them they all seem to work with all different models. Think the images are not correct to size.

I'm not sure if you're catching it correctly. But that one will work with the latest Macbook Air models listed, yes. Because the depth of the slot is the same. But if the slot is deeper on the various Pro models then it won't be long enough, or if the slot is shallower, it will stick out.

The Pro cards are all shorter so the Air card will stick out and not sit flush.

Kewl.. thankfully i don't need additional storage presently but it was something i was considering for sis. For me, I have my server with itunes match which is great for accessibility of a medium sized library. :)
 
I got the 350 version (128GB) for my rMBP 15. I get a sustained 50MB/sec write speed and read is about 84MB/sec sustained for large files, i.e. 600MB each.

Stupid, but sincere question: Are those speeds decent? Not really sure what expectations should be - i.e. how does that compare to a top of the line SSD? *

Those are very decent speeds for storing video, docs and music files, i.e. offloading stuff from your main SSD. You can easily view 1080p video from that. Also saving completed docs onto it for archival purposes should work too.

I haven't benchmarked my Samsung 830 Pro inside the Apple retina MBP but it's probably in the range of 250-300MB/sec read/write.
My MacPro's Hitachi UltraStar's maxes out at about 130MB/sec. My MacPro's main drive - OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 3G SSD tops at about 250MB/sec read/write, but it's a SATA2 controlled device unlike the SATA3 connection for my rMBP SSD. I speak of sequential speeds, i.e. copying large files. These are real world benchmarks using muCommander and Apple's Activity Monitor and copying across stuff from my SSD to this card.

What's good about this card is also that it makes a nice dust cover for that SD card slot and that it's solid state and fits tightly. You are still having the advantages of SSD storage which are most important for laptops. That being = no moving parts and no head crashes. :)
 
How would one go about storing ones iTunes library (30GB - music) on this Jet Drive so that none of my music is on my SSD.

I have a rMBP 2014 13.3".
