But why are you looking at Ethiopian? Airlink flies directly there once a week from JNB:

ive flown with them on a number of occasions - a really good airline.
i've never flown with airlink previously.

R30 000 for a return flight to Madagascar..... That's crazy. Must be out of touch with international travel.

not out of touch at all - i've travelled extensively for both work and pleasure.
even as a child, we lived in hong kong for a few yrs (primary residence remained here - lots of travel.
later on, we lived in maurituis - i was at boarding school in kzn - would travel back and forth every school holiday.
worked for the state dept - again, endless travel.
over the last 2 years i have been to hong kong, cyprus, sweden & uk.

so no, definitely not out of touch - those costs are also for business class seats, not economy - hence the higher cost
