have you seen the overseas gaming magazine prices, some over the R150 mark, anyone buy these mags. I use to buy them at paper-weight years ago, when they still weighed the mags, like 5 for R20. Then they went up from R10 eventually to R60, then i stopped and lot of them closed down.

i use to enjoy edge, official xbox mag, computer and video games, games tm etc, but now i'd rather put that money towards a new game instead of just reading about them. Yet there must still be a market cos at cna theirs plenty R100+ mags for sale. I just can't justify paying that much for a 100 pages of words, heck a new novel costs less.

Its the importers/local retailers over pricing them. If you subscribe to the magazine's it works out much cheaper.

Only mag I subscribe to is pc gamer US.

About 4 or 5 years ago the price rocketed. I think they're either charging more for import or they are trying to stimulate the local market. We've seen a few local versions spring up with thicker paper and more ads, but I don't think it's working. The UK versions are far better, but you won't find me buying them for double the price. I'd rather download it off a torrent than be ripped off.

I have the net so that makes mags obsolete.

True. I stopped buying pcformat a year or so ago when they started limiting some extras for subscribers only (before this I was even planning to subscribe again, but their tactics left a bad taste in my mouth). I have since found that I do not miss it at all.

I used to work at CNA as a student- at the end of every month we had to take all the old imported magazines, tear off the front cover to send back as proof of dead stock and then chuck out the rest of the mag- I used to get at least ten of them a month... I found that quite interesting... so if you really are desperate you can search the bins outside CNA at the end of each month :D

I won't buy the local mags. Use to buy pcf but realised they offer absolutely no content that I can't find online.

The reason I buy pc gamer is because of their exclusive content and hands on previews of pc games months before anyone else. a 12 issue with dvd is about R380 if you subscribe while if you were buying the mag at cna it would worked out something like R1100.

i remember the days when we could go into thos paper weight or books per kilo shops and get a stack of music mags for a few bucks and now sadly they are no more. just like factory shops where they drew you in with good prices then they flip on you and charge normal shop prices.

I think the prices increased when they started getting the magazines on time. Maybe they went from surface shipping to airmail.

I stopped buying the local PCF after the last female editor left. Since then the mag seems to have started aiming at the young teen demographic. There is just so much leet speak I'm willing to put up with in a professional publication.

jeez i still have boxes of mags maybe i must open my own books per tonne shop.

I use to love nag back in the day. But there content is not up to date compared to the net. And there opinions are, lets just say a load of bull. Fair enough there dvd's are good for the vids but agian if you got the bandwidth its pointless.

agreed, buy nag only for trailers, the mag gets chucked or flipped through in a few minutes. Some-one should bring out a stand-alone dvd, for like R20, that will kill nag. same with pcf, same articles, same boring comparisons etc, also only buy for the apps on dvd. what puzzles me is people buy nag for the content, what content! people blowing their own horns and hoping people will follow their every word.

Lol. And the nag forums are so hostile. People there think that they know every thing there is to know. The real sad thing is to see people who are in there 30's there.

The people that MAKE those games certainly are in their 30s if not older. I find it amusing when people assume games are kiddie-only stuff and anyone above 20 got something wrong with them for "still" playing games.

There are games that makes more money than the top selling hollywood movies, that is serious business and certainly won't happen with just a bunch of teenagers, someone has to pay for these games....who do you think has the $$$ ?

Plus, last i checked the average gamer age was 29 .

I did not say games are for kids. What I mean is nag is really for kids. And by the way those people who are making "games" in this country are wasting there time.

Not sure what you mean by that? Remember that people making games in this country are not targeting the local audience. Luma Arcade for example do iPhone games these days - appart from other platforms - , (I think i-imagine is doing iPhone games too) and these games are sold on the US and Euro appstores.

... soz if I misunderstood you like the previous poster did with your previous post ;)

There was a place in Bellville that sold all old imported mags anyone know if it still operates or a similar one?
