Frost, fire and arcane mages all are viable choices
My mage is arcane frost spec at the moment for arena purposes. Though it is a lot less dps than fire mages, my Frostbolt crits are still 3-4.5k in dmg.
As arcane fire spec my Pyro would crit for 6k easily and have 1k+ ignite

The good old days of Blackwing layer with magic vaulnerable mobs were the best days. At level 60 we had frostbolt crits of up to 20k and pyro for up to 17k!

On curator in Kara, I still have 7-10k frostbolt crits during his weakened state But pyro crits of way over 10k!

Have only 1300 + spell dmg so a lot higher crits should be possible.

Before ice lance crits would break frost nova, frost mages were real easy mode against any melee char 2.3k ice lance crits

2 shoting a dump fire mage is more fun frost mages eat waroir for breakfast
firemages die.

And aggro is hard to get of a fire mage if he crits the mob and you abilities are on cd.Fire is a popular spec i see alot of mages specing it on my server and got 3 in guild.

Well mage is a challenge to survive no matter the spec but ill miss iceblock and improved frost nova way too (shatter) much.

I saw in WSG wat 3 frost mage can hold the flag room from a full team frost nova 8 players they did this 3 times with cone of cold and improved blizzard we were all dead after that there just no killing 3 frosties thats in a small room and knows how to play.

I might go Frost after hitting lvl 70, but at the moment I'm having too much fun lol

My firemage only dies if the tank can't tank and the healer can't heal...
