Trying to set up a magic trackpad with my older mbp
it is running snow leopard (10.6.9)

it is paired under bluetooth preferences, however, when i enter system preferences > trackpad > set up bluetooth trackpad, i am faced with this:

tp.jpg

despite the "no trackpad found" error, the cursor works fine (moving about), but i am trying to enable click to select (tap on the trackpad) as opposed to physically pressing the left / right corner of the trackpad which in turn pushes the buttons within it's feet.

what am i doing wrong here ?

Wait a mo - which mini is that? I am pretty sure I have the same one - circa 2008 - that runs Lion.

It's one of the first of the Intel Minis c.2006 - MA206LL/A. It's a Core Duo - not a Core 2 Duo

FWIW - I'm pretty sure OsX 10.6 only went up to 10.6.8

Try with magicprefs.

I'll check my model number later. Those things are gold. I got one of the G4 minis as well. Still works, still a piece of magic.

I bought it as a backup but it's been my media server virtually since day one. Sure, it's getting a bit long in the tooth but it's been doing it's thing for nearly 8 years now so I really have no cause to complain.

Why is that thing even showing up? Does it recognise the built-in trackpad?

What does Bluetooth preference show? Maybe forget in bluetooth prefs then reconnect.

So the solos don't pass Snow Leopard. Did it ship with Leopard or Tiger?

Still running Snow Leopard? Any reason why?

on that particular machine (4yrs old) snow leopard flies like a bat out of hell - mavericks - meh !
(faster than this higher spec mbp)

on this one (8 months old) , mavericks is happy, but snow leopard is snappier.

quite frankly, i find maverick "cumbersome" for reasons unbeknown to me

what you saw there was system preferences > trackpad > add bluetooth trackpad.
the pic below is system preferences > bluetooth.

no problem with the built in trackpad at all.
paired the magic trackpad & one is able to use either built in, or magic trackpad at any time.

(lordy bee - look at that, an old nokia still on that machines bluetooth list )

No, they're 32 bit.

Tiger

oh well, problem solved.

a friend came around, she thought it was "pretty".
told her "help yourself"

i am much quicker using the built in track pad, so good riddance to the thing

now, where is that magic mouse :D
