Some personal choice involved in that...

its taking up so much space.
So delete what you no longer need then.

Are the attachments yours or your company's?

Yours - keep what you want and delete the rest.
Company's - they should backup/archive what they need you to keep.

Then what I said about 'company' is obviously up to you.

You say you already backup, this will certainly at some point test how good that is, and how much you trust it.

Oh, external USB drives are not great backup devices to rely on...

It is, and when you're done, open Mail/Preferences/select account/toggle Download Attachments to None... Keep attachments on the server and not your machine.

I just drag and drop everything out of my Inbox and Sent box to a local Archive folder every 6 months
In this case it is a drive on the server

In your case just use a small thumbdrive, discrete like a buttplug and give you plenty more space for your emails

Pxrnhub has multiple servers in America and Europe. I'm sure if you delete your copy they have a backup.

Personally, I tend to keep attachments under 450Kb

If is larger then I download the attachment if needed and then delete the mail.

It's a lot of effort, but it keeps my inbox relatively small.
