Hi Guys, I have a small "server" at home, basically just a pc with storage and so one. I would like to set up a small mail server. I am not a server administrator, I just basically want the home pc's to interact with a little mail server on the server machine and send and receive mail to the server with the server then actually retrieving mail from various POP accounts and redistribution it and sending the mail from one point.

I found the perfect solution, Burrotech Office Mail. It is $60, and I can't justify paying that at the moment for my intended use.

Do any of you know of a small app, that is easy to configure that would give me more or less the same functionality and that is FREE?

In 2004 I installed Hamster as a hobby project
It works best as an NNTP server but also works as a POP3 server

It was dead easy to install and configure

Of course in the last 9 years things may have happened
Although POP3 hasnt changed so it should be fiine

Thanks for the reply... I can then safely say I am truly stupid, cause I installed it and couldn't get it to work :(

If you're new to configuring mail servers, stick with hmail server and try to figure it out.

Start with http://www.hmailserver.com/documentation/v5.4/?page=reference_external_account for configuring to fetch mail from pop 3 accounts

and

http://www.hmailserver.com/documentation/v5.4/?page=reference_protocolsmtp

Also read the docs about open relays (which you definately don't want your server to be.) If you are fetchiing your mail from pop3, I think you only need SMTP relaying to be allowed from client pc's on your LAN but maybe someone else can confirm that.
