Hi guys

I have a domain registered - I would like to send out newsletters from this domain, what would the best way to do this ? Did i really need to hve a domain for this ???

I have a subscriber base of approx 2000 peeps, the hosting company has restrictions per hour as to no of mails that i send -

I am novice and know nothing bout php etc - website not designed yet, want to get newsletters running first

any advice, thx

Try an open source application called PHP List. That way it is sent from the ISP's server and not from your desktop. Sending bulk emails from an ADSL line normally gets flagged as spam (ie sending from a dynamic ip address)

If you are considering PHPlist and want to re-theme it, check out my signature and visit the portfolio on my website, the last in the list (at the bottom of the list is PC Square, a fellow MyBB forumite from East London, for whom I rebranded PHPList)

PM me your contact details if you want more info and I can call you.

Also please get permission to send emails to customers, just because they have bought from you does not mean they approve of receiving spam

subscriber base is only one aspect, have they all opted in to receive newsletters? How often do you intend sending, do you want to segment your database, do you also want additional functionality such as sms, auto-responders, scheduled sendings, tracking stats, ability to send birthday greetings etc.

You need to take all these things into consideration

thank u all for responses - appreciated

There is also a product called contactnow (just google it) that handles bulk emails. you can edit your newsletter template and import your database and then send with one click.

As was mentioned earlier, please ensure that you have permission from the people in your database before you send to them.

Hope this helps

No, not really, but it looks more professional and will probably land you on fewer blacklists.

Are these "2000 peeps" actual subscribers who gave you permissions to send them spam (until they've confirmed that you can mail them, it will be spam)? If not, then you're probably going to get blacklisted, the ISP's server blacklisted and the ISP really p1ss3d off at you. Worse-case scenario you could end up with a legal battle if it's against their TOS to spam. You could also loose your domain, and probably be listed on ISPA's spam wall of shame

Every single person which you want to mail need to have given you explicit permission todo so, preferably via a double-opt-in system.

Use something like phplist, or even mailman (but change it to one-way-communication first). phplist will allow you to setup different templates and mail different people according to different criteria.

Otherwise, and more preferably, use a 3rd party bulk mailing company like senderbase, Mailchimp (for example) - this will get you up and running quicker, and also help cut-down on being blacklisted.

Hi

Thank u

All subscribers have given permission to be on the mailing list, I have opt in and out functions.

Thank u for sound advice, maybe I should rather settle for bulk mailing company.

Appreciate it

try mailfire from webafrica - just dont expect mail delivery reports as their smartermail servers cant do that (apparently)
