Make broadband free!

you have a better chance of winning big on the Lotto than this ever happening in SA. Telkom would never stand for it, nor would the SA govt.

Like there is a difference

The gov seems incapable of supplying the current essential services that the people need to survive - why would they make something free that augments the state coffers and more importantly their salaries.

Actually you're right, there is no difference. It struck me after I posted. My apologies and many thanks for pointing that out to me!

Its still nice wishing!:D

However I agree it is unrealistic to expect broadband to be free:(

IMO we will see some drastic reductions in the cost of broadband over the next 12 months

Im gonne try and be an optimist and believe u :D

So it is not a matter of financial constraint, but a lack of the right mindset to make it happen, he says.

Surely one needs a mind to have a mindset?

I don't think the article was referring to broadband being entirely free. Water and electricity is considered a basic service and you still have to pay for it. Most people would agree that broadband should just be easily affordable. For the few that can't seem to afford anything it should be subsidised by government as is already being done at some libraries.

Well, a bit of a flaw...

I can afford a lot of things, but can not afford ADSL, since my current teklom expenditure, including internet through dial-up, is still less than the stupid second line-rental! So, should I be subsidised as well?

It would be nice if it was cheaper, but not critical. If only they would make broadband broadband!

I guess if the price drops below your current expenditure you won't need subsidising :D flaw corrected

Not critical? Are we living in the same universe? It's ten times more expensive here than in the rest of the civilised world, when they don't even consider anything below 512k/s to be 'broadband'.
