Make my Spaghetti better

Already posted but ignored, some people prefer stuff out of bottles and packets :D

I never ignored this - pretty sure I thanked you ^_^ - and seeing as I'm using that recipe and bought the ingredients on that list yesterday before DJ reposted -

You were the least ignored here

Did not see where you mentioned buying all the ingredients. When you're done deliver some to my spot :D

Wish me god speed,
So far missing fish sauce (Couldn't find)
and white wine (I'm an idiot)

Total price so far 500+ (Had to buy a garlic crusher and bottle opener)

Note to self, buy pestle and mortar

EDIT: I see its a done deal already. Go with the advice you've got then. Good luck.

Loose the Tomato onion mix. Cut 2 tomatoes & 1 onion yourself. Would recommend adding half a paprika and 125g-250g of white button mushrooms. NB the first 3 of those need to cook a bit - just throw them in early its fine if they get cook to a mushy substance. Add mushrooms very late in process. All of it cut finely except mushroom - those you split in say 4 pieces. Do not soak the mushrooms - wash them fast & efficiently.

For the sauce, I'd recommend adding red wine, a bit of butter, LOTS of parsley, a decent bit of italian herb mix (robertson variety), a bit of oregano and a bit of salt and pepper. Do not add the mushrooms and wine at the same time - it will colour them pink. I'd recommend adding a decent dose of tumeric - it offsets the weird colour.

Def don't do sauce and noodles in one pot. Noodles, water, salt & olive oil in one pot. Add more salt then you think is needed. Everything else in other pot for sauce. Boil kettle and throw noodles in a colander at the end & douse it with the hot water.

Go easy on the cheese. Personally I don't even use it, but if you must rather sprinkle it on top at the end for dish presentation purposes. Technically parmasan {sp?} would be more appropriate.
And your friends pizza herb will be the oregano.

Serve with red wine. I'd recommend a Spier Cabernet Sauvignon

As for the mince - you're on your own there bra. I don't do mince.

Impressing a hot friend this weekend - what should I add to my spaghetti [Please note I rarely cook so no laughing]

Way I usually make it

Mince
Tomato Onion Mix
Chutney
Cheddar
Spaghetti

Brown mince
Add all other ingredients [except Spaghetti]
simmer on low heat for an hour

Boil Spaghetti - pour mince on top - add hude mounds of cheddar

Friend of mine used to put what he called pizza herbs in his - was delicious, dunno what herbs he used :'(

We still only have Drew's word that there was indeed a girl :erm:

Although I am not sure which guy will spend so much knowing that at the end of the evening all he has to show is a diy hand job

Where's Picard?

Drinking a milk stout, trying to figure out what dish he can make with pickled fish, processed cheese wedges, orange liqueur and a bottle of Ina Paarmans garlic sauce...:D

No no Picard's all about ambiguously Indian stews.

He makes an attempt at a chicken curry and ends up calling it a chicken soup.

Picard, every time you post, it feels like a real-life episode of Chopped...

Yip, lean mince has almost no flavour, horrible stuff that. It's ok to shop at spar etc :D

It's hard to find non-lean mince. All the shops I go to either have lean or extra lean. The only non-lean I found was some crap mince that was mixed with other random filler stuff.

Very simple but tasty dish. This is a staple for us.

Chop 2 onions and two cloves of garlic. Add to two tablespoons of hot olive oil. Add a teaspoon of aniseed seeds, or fennel seeds. Fry until they start to brown.
Add 500g mince, and fry until it is cooked but not browned out. Has a grayish colour, and no pink mince anywhere. Add a handful of finely chopped thyme and rosemary. Cook for about 5 more minutes on a medium heat. Add 1 can of tomato/onion and stir.
Add two tablespoons of honey, 1 small can of tomato paste, and about a quarter cup of chutney. Let it simmer on a low heat for about 15 mins, stirring every few minutes to ensure the bottom doesn't burn.

Cook your spaghetti until it's just cooked. Drain and put in bowl. Add spaghetti on top, with sweet basil as a garnish or grated cheddar.

It's so easy, I've taught 8 year Olds how to do it, and it still tastes good. Give her something simple but tasty is probably going to get you more brownie points than a gourmet dish. At least she can expect you to reproduce that dish on a regular basis, whereas she knows a gourmet dish ain't going to happen very often.
