'Make oil cheaper for poor' - Chavez

On-topic: Doesn't Chavez understand that most of the world operates in the free-market? I suppose the reason he is out of touch with reality is that he loves to live out his socialist ideals.
Other things are sold at different prices to different countries, so why not oil?

Other things are sold at different prices to different countries, so why not oil?

So Botswana will then become a huge Oil export nation, Import to the cheap and export at the nice price. Just pure logic is it not!

Au contraire

Off topic, the zeitgeistmovie suggests that money is not it's weight in gold anymore,

?? The zeitgeist movie does not 'suggest' any such thing, it states that the dollar (as in actual dollar in your hand) was once exchangeable / redeemable in gold - thats what gave the currency value and still does to this day, But you see way back when, the government stole the american citizens gold gave them paper in return - and changed the wording to read 'legal tender' - now how did you manage to mangle that so badly orange?

well, why should it be, if it were, we would simply be spending billions so that millions of miners go underground, experience harsh and deadly conditions everyday, all for a useless metal.

We do spend billions on doing this... ?
You really showed what deft an undertanding of economics you have with those insightful words...! the ..reality is that the Rand you have in your pocket is worth nothing it has no market value whatsoever.

Yu see Orange .. once upon a time ppl had gold they had gold before they had money, there fathers or grandfathers prospected for it - it was valuable and ppl used it as currency at the time (Kinda like in ZA...), it was only when governments started printing money and reserve banks were set up, that ppl were duped into handing in there gold for money.

Now skip forward to present day, like today 2007-11-15, 1:27am
Gold is trading at $813.90 a fine ounce right now. Think about that what if ppl still had all there gold? most had a good few ounces i can assure you.

You see the world think's it's valuable stuff otherwise it would not be trading at these prices... infact reserve banks actually store vast piles of the stuff ours included - because the more gold a country has in reserve the more valuable and stable the currency / economy is -ppl see the economy as having substance...
I'm not going to go much further on this - you figure the rest out...

If you don't understand modern economics, or aren't atleast part of the reservebank or federal comities, then please don't make arrogant bigoted claims about it.

Quite harsh i would think, i dont claim to be an expert, But i am certainly trying to understand economics, i do alot of reading on the subject.
But i stand corrected should someone want to interject.

What talent, creativity or hard work do OPEC countries do for trillions of dollars each year.

If you read the article in the initial post... things might all make a little more sense.

Thanks! :/

Yet another brave revolutionary resistance fighter has been abandoned to face the imperialist American pigs alone. :o

Xarog I bet still fancies him. Unfortunately I think he is doing drills in Tehran at the moment :D

GLB are the posse ;)
Nah, I've just decided that I don't need to waste my time with idiots, as a rule. ;)

And just so we're clear : people who resort to ad-hominem attacks instead of debating the merits of the case = idiots. Of course, you insult people who aren't even participating, so I guess that makes you the prime-idiot.

The current booming world economy would need to spend trillions to hire miners into harsh, deadly conditions, just so that a unnecessary metal should back paper.

The 'Gold Standard', which your referring to is an totally politically incorrect, unfair, counter productive, idiotic method of valuating money, it simply entitles, countries with gold , the right to be rich and lazy, while hard working, creative countries(i.e.Japan/China/USA), who have less or no gold mines or deposits would be poor.

I think that money should be used as a token of appreciation, not a paper that is backed by a useless, unproductive metal, which is mostly used to produce unnecessary things. 'undertand'?:/

No i'm sorry i dont, it's baseless nonsense what forth pour.

  2. You have no grasp of this topic, apart from your thoughts on tokens, which is great!
