Does anyone know of someone who has the skills to 'make' a computer desk?

I have a computer desk in my room but my room is small, so I've had to make some changes and I want to get rid of this 'table' but now I want something made, does anyone know of someone who can make one...

I've looked at alot of desks on say, gumtree, but they all not right for my room.
I have a small room so some of the changes I have to make is that my current computer desk is too big and I need to bring it down to size somewhat.

The dimensions I'm looking at;

Top of table to bottom is 70CM
Left of table to right is 185CM
Back of table to front of table is 45CM

Also thinking of having 1x lockable draw on the left hand side big enough for me to put my laptop in.
Maybe even a 2nd draw.

I wouldn't tighten the bolts too tightly because from my experience, different activities in front of the Pc require different ergonomics.

I started to play Diablo 3 recently and it has been very taxing on my back (between my shoulder blades) like now other game has done before).

First see what happens if you do, what you do ... and then decide what the dimensions should be.

Wtf? Picard put down the brandy before you get hurt else gdiza will have to come with his amulance and fix you :D

I don't think gdiza will bother with me if he hears that my highest paragon level is only a level 12 Barbarian. My other characters are a Male monk (Paragon 7), a Female Demon Hunter (P7) and a female Wizard (P6).

My current character is the Wizard and I think she has the potential to be quite kick-ass.

Remember I only started playing this somewhere during early December.

The table I currently have is old and I've never liked it.

Ultimately, there is nothing really wrong with it, I just think it's time to get something new and something that I can change down the line, currently, it's made of difference pieces of wood, looks ugly and is permanent fixture in my room only because it's pretty much part of the wall now.

OMG hilarious!!

My Father actually made 'desks'....like 60cm x 3m :wtf:

Welded the base and legs together then just screwed on a piece of laminated wood and some other small stuff.
got everything from builders warehouse, cheap.
I wouldn't trust a lockable drawer on a DIY job like this though

If your building rather put a false front panel with small safe behind and just have a basic lock draw. A locked draw is immediate a target and decoy but who would guess about the hidden safe..

A guy that I drive with is a furniture maker. He just installed some very snazzy desks for Stellies Uni where he put all-in-one touchscreen Dell PCs inside the desk so that you can either close it and use the surface as a normal school desk or open it and use the PC. I can talk to him if you like; I'm not sure if he can do one-offs but he's quite good.

@OP , if you have BIC's you can always sacrifice one and build in a "desk".

I did the following in my smallest bedroom to save on space and negated having a desk take up space.

my neighbour is a carpenter. Been thinking of asking to do the same for me. This might just be the added motivation to ask

So I contacted Timber City and they quoted me R708.95 to make the desk I told you guys about.

I only got the quote at COB today so he hasn't confirmed if that price includes labour and / or delivery (which I doubt it does because it doesn't say anything about that in the quote)

Another guy (private business type handyman oke) quoted me R2500 to make the same table :wtf: and I'm still waiting for another company to come back to me (MCH Interiors)

That makes me sad :(

I take up 2 huge tables, need the space :P

Well, that setup and mine, I'm currently taking the space of 2 desks I guess.
On my current desk I have a laptop, 2x LCD's, speakers, keyboard and mouse with some other accessories on it.

Did that before. You get these standard credenza type things with various door setups...can't remember where we got them. Like builders warehouse or something. Use those as a base and these prefab donkey breakfast slabs & cut them to fit & rest them on the credenzas. Between those 2 things you can build any shape you want.

e.g. I wanted half my bedroom walls covered in an L shaped thing with me sitting in the corner of the L...so the mouse hand elbow has good support. Looked a bit office-y but super practical.

I can actually manufacture one of them, but I'm based in Pretoria. I do cabinet making as a hobby and to earn extra income. :P

Anyways, it all depends on the type of wood that you need. I prefer to work with Kiaat (which is probably the most expensive in SA), it just looks better.

I built this bookshelf style computer stand with my grandpa about 10 years ago (he was a carpenter).

It's not that hard but you'll need the right tools. The wood is SA Pine, I used three 3000mmx600mmx30mm boards and cost about R350 in total at the time. It's mounted to the wall with bolts on the top of the side supports. It took us about 3 - 4 days to build, was a fun project. I'm going to be using it as a bookshelf in future, as I have the space to get a bigger desk now.

SA Pine is the cheapest that you can find. I hate working with it though, you have a large wastage and it splinters if you're not careful. It is also looks cheap with a varnish on it.

I can design one specifically for the equipment that you would like to use it for, and give you the cutlist and some pics.
You take the cutlist to build-it or some such place and they will cut melamine for you.

All you then need to do is screw everything together and stick the edging on with a clothes iron. Like those self-assembly crap you buy at game, but sturdier.
