Making Android phones is like pissing on yourself

Anyone remember this little gem from the previous Nokia CEO:

His big issue was that he believed Android manufacturers would be unable to differentiate themselves. Just found myself thinking about this while reading a news site comparing the HTC Sensation to the Galaxy S2. Man this guy got it wrong.

Just makes me warm and fuzzy inside when arrogant CEO's get their azzes kicked.

It would seem to be a greater problem differentiating wp7 handsets given that Ms prohibits selling modified roms. Gl to Nokia though they have a tough time ahead.

Nokia used to be good, when there was no viable alternatives.

Unfortunately, most of their phones went the way of small little fiddly things with stupid buttons and kak screens. The giant became dormant and their market dominance went down the drain.

Nokia was the best, as said above but they failed to adapt and thought that they could just keep doing what they did and it didnt work out! I will most likely never get another nokia!

I think his arrogance gave Google the drive and the will to succeed.

Before his infamous speech, Android was developing, but still low-key.

After his speech, Larry Page & Sergey Brin most probably got together and said : "Let's show this arrogant Nokia dude how it's done."

And boy, did they show him.

With Android, there's no status, it's all equal grounds with the manufacturers, and as a result the phones we getting are becoming more and more amazing. So for companies to excel, they need to make a better phone from hardware, to looks to user interface. Now, that is what really drives phone differentiation if you ask me... Proper competition!

Having the same phone is a different wrapper is all nokia did... Sure, having cool media buttons, or having <insert a cool feature> was great, but they all pretty much the same crap.

While Android, Apple and Windows phones do actually all look the same, I suspect Android phones to start looking far more different, have some far more crazy features, and posing a much more diverse selection than what has ever been seen before.

I suspect that google might starting to push the limits of phones in terms of software, and also making clever innovations in order to keep the patent wars under control.

I've got a Moto Defy and a HTC Wildfire. My cousin has a HTC Desire S and a work colleague has a Galaxy S. I have fiddled with my Cousins phone and the Galaxy S.
They are all different in many ways. Very easy to 'differentiate'
