Making fibre to the home profitable

Interesting..

and at a cost of R15k per household... that starts to sound interesting, to say the least.

Also its a cost that doesn't have a 1 or 2 year return on investment period... it should be closer to 5 - 10 years (imo)

Well why don't he do it ?
I want to see him do that for normal houses or apartments
dreams are one thing reality another

He is indeed doing it - both in gated villages and now now in a standard suburb. The article contains all the information.

Also as an addition to this, having FTTH allows the provider to upsell MANY services to the client...

Standard telephony, data, and multimedia services...

I am guessing at a bundled rate of R1000pm they could actually recoup the install costs and start making a profit on the install in about 2 years... which is bloody good going if the install SHOULD last for 10 years (conservative estimate)

Correct. This is the way to do it. I would gladly pay R1000 a month for Triple Play services (Telephone, Internet and Television).

+1 ... hell, am probably paying this or more right now, but for a lower speed and probably worse tv and phone service

I still think it is a pipe dream ...no way to make it cheap like R15000 unless the connections are very close to main roads in major centres

Oi. Knock the guy down when he's not made it happen. For now, lets be supportive and wish them the best.

Its not as if its your own money on the line.
I'm hoping that Loots & co can make the much needed difference in the market.

Go on boys!
