Makro Fujitsu Laptop Special

Hi Guys

Makro is currently running a special on a Fujitsu Lifebook laptop.The laptop runs on a core i5 processor, 6GB Ram and has a 2.66GHz Processor. It is on sale at R4999.

What do you think about the Fujitsu laptop range? Is it worth the investment?
 
You get what you pay for - the machines generally are not built too well. I had one that died on me, but granted, it was due to a power spike. Other one worked ok, but screen was kinda sucky, it was very plasticky and the battery didn't last too long.
 
My wife and I both have fujitsu laptops - around 4 years old now. They represent good value imo. They aren't as feature rich, and the build quality is average. But they'll last a good couple years.

EDIT: A note on the battery - it isn't very good! Both laptops essentially have no battery anymore. But then show me a laptop battery that will last more than 2 years?!
 
my first laptop was a Fujitsu, also a makro special, back in 2003 i think.
Last year that laptop was still working and i wont be surprised if its still working.....good quality and i was very happy with it.
 
oh yes...battery stopped working after 6 month and 1 week, and the warranty on it was 6 month...so you better check that...

I was told the warranty only on the battery is 6 month.
It was about 8 years ago...so not sure if its still the case.

Edit: come to think about it , very strange that the warranty on the battery is separated.

Makro sell those laptops with a 1 year warranty. Never seen mention of separate battery warranty. I'm sure you could nail them.
 
Battery warranties are usually less than the machine - although I've yet to see a 6 month battery warranty.

I think i also sent the battery to Siemens and they told me its not under warranty any more...was so long ago...can't remember exactly what happened.

The REPLACEMENT battery may have only had a 6 month warranty?

No, the original one, my battery was never replaced.

Back to topic: sounds like a great special, just make sure you get at least one year of warranty on the battery..
I found it very suspicious that the battery stopped working 1 week after the warranty expired!!
 
Great laptop, mine is 6 years old and still runs great (ran Battlefield 1942 on it back when I used to play games)
Battery sucks though. after 6 months it was down to half. 6 months after that it was down to 5 mins. Sony battery though.
Only ever replaced the lcd inverter.

Family members have purchased Fujitsu's from Makro on special in the past... they are all still running... 2 of them are close on 5 years old now... and not a single days problem. The batteries have all lasted OK, 2 years or so, so cannot complain. The build quality is average... very plastic... and shows some wear around the hinges... but nothing has broken yet.

If the price is good I would go for it.

Incredible connection used to have a separate warranty on battery and screen for their laptops... my sister-in-law purchased her Acer from them with the extended warranty and it stated 6 months for battery and 1 year for screen+power pack, with 3 years on the rest. I have seen it in the small print on a couple of adverts... so it has been done in the past.

Some how I can't believe that. Or they made the machines really well in the old days, or you cared for it really well. I had an HP that's 4 years old. Battery used to do about 3 hours when I got it. After about 2 years it was down to about 10 minutes and it stopped reporting to Windows.
 
The general public don't know how to use laptop batteries correctly. I know so many people using their laptops as desktop replacements - i.e. always plugged in...

With the battery attached. :(

People, please remove your batteries when using your laptop as a desktop replacement (with power cord attached). Will increase the lifespan/charge time.

Eish... I have never removed my battery... ever. I still have had excellent battery life from all of my notebooks... 3 years on with this one and I still get 3 hours away from the plug (it is a 17" HP) and my previous laptops also did about 2 to 3 hours 4 years on. I never had the run down effect really, mine have just worked then died without warning, I would get 2 hours on a 4 year old machine and the next week my battery would not hold a minutes charge and I was told it was time to replace it.

I read somewhere that the trick to laptop battery life is never to let them run completely flat and to always make sure you run the laptop on battery for at least 25 minutes a week / or a month (I cannot remember). Keep the juice flowing in the cell and it will live. Or so I was told, read...

Well... my HP is 3 years old now... when it was new, I got 4 hours from the battery... I now get 3 hours using it away from the plug. I can indeed believe it.

If I do Photoshop and anything requiring the graphics card to be really used, I get 2 hours-ish... but for email, admin, browsing on WiFi... 3 hours is the norm.
