do you want to explain what is the problem about die stem? that is not about the meaning of the word, that is about the history and other factors I guess. I truly don't want to repeat myself.

It's the grammar, pronunciation and slang that confuses people.

The grammar.
Stuff like double negatives. Malema kan nie sing nie.
Then there's all the strange vowels ê è î û ô ë.

Pronunciation.
My English friends loves this one. "Ek gaan gou gou."

The Slang.
No one can speak Afrikaans properly. But maybe that's for the better because it sounds put on and cringe as hell when a person tries.

It's not really a easy language to learn if you didn't grow up with it apparently.
