Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema will be the party's presidential candidate in the May 7 general elections, the party said on Monday.

The top 10 candidates on the EFF list are:

-- Malema;

-- Mpho Ramakatsa;

-- Leigh-Ann Mathys;

-- Floyd Shivambu;

-- Hlengiwe Hlophe;

-- Godrich Gardee;

-- Magdalene Moonsamy;

-- Mbuyiseno Ndlozi;

-- Teboho Mokwele; and

-- Andile Mngxitama.

Provincial premier candidates were also announced.

Lawyer Dali Mpofu was named the EFF's Gauteng premier candidate.

All nine candidates were formerly members of the African National Congress.

Malema told reporters in Johannesburg that members of the Socialist Party of Azania (Sopa) and the Black Consciousness Party (BCP) would not stand independently.

"...their candidates shall be part of the EFF candidates' list who hold dual membership..." Malema said.

MALEMA CONFIDENT ABOUT LIST

EFF leader Julius Malema is confident about the list of candidates the party has submitted to the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC), he said on Monday.

"There won't be a province where we won't be in charge," Malema told reporters in Johannesburg.

"The leadership we have today will have the capacity to address the issues of the people.

"There is no chair that we are not contesting this year. It is only us and the ANC that has 830 candidates listed," he said.

Some of the listed candidates were members of other political parties that would not be contesting the elections independently, he said.

Those parties included the Socialist Party of Azania and the Black Consciousness Party.

A Democratic Alliance Limpopo MPL Meisie Kennedy was also among the Economic Freedom Fighters candidates.

"The South African Constitution embraces freedom of movement. When met Malema it felt like the perfect fit. Like a hand in a glove," she said.

"I saw the EFF as a remedy for our people to be taken out of poverty. I am concerned [about] our people," she said.

Members of the Sopa and BCP present at the announcement of the listed candidates said they aligned with the EFF because they had common ideologies and the party's struggle for land redistribution and economic freedom resonated with their own parties' vision.

Malema, along with lawyer Dali Mpofu and Floyd Shivambu, handed over the party's candidate lists last Wednesday.

Malema was the party's presidential candidate, Shivambu was number four on the party's national list, and Mpofu was listed as the EFF's Gauteng premier candidate.

That's great because some parties have been in existence for a long time but still cannot compete with the ANC in certain areas.

This is the woman who got recruited to clean up the ANCYL's grammar. She is very eloquent from what I have read of her press releases. I guess it's back to grade 1 English for the YL.
 
Reminds me of Screaming Lord Sutch, guess SA politics are maturing :D

In the 1960s, Sutch stood in parliamentary elections, often as representative of the National Teenage Party. His first was in 1963, when he contested the by-election in Stratford-upon-Avon caused by the resignation of John Profumo. He gained 208 votes. His next was at the 1964 General Election when he stood in Harold Wilson's Huyton constituency. Here he received 518 votes.

He founded the Official Monster Raving Loony Party in 1983 and fought the Bermondsey by-election. In his career he contested over 40 elections, rarely threatening the major candidates, but often getting a respectable number of votes. He was easily recognisable at election counts by his flamboyant clothes and top hat. It was after he polled several hundred votes in Margaret Thatcher's Finchley constituency in 1983 that the deposit paid by candidates was raised from £150 to £500. This did little to deter Sutch, who increased the number of concerts he performed to pay for campaigns. He achieved his highest poll and vote share at Rotherham in 1994 with 1,114 votes and a 4.2 per cent vote share.

Sheesh JM has been working like a demon! He's been all over the country. Today he was doing North West, weekend he was in Free State, before that he was in Cape Town. And he has done a similar countrywide journey just a month ago before launching the manifesto. This is almost unprecedented! The new truck has really been a blessing. Coligny and Itsoseng today:

Jeez look at that belly. He has become even fatter. Forget Freedom Fighters, that globular chunk of lard needs to join Fat Fighters.
