"Part of the reason many are being easily infected by the malware is that Safari — the default browser in Mac OS — can be set to automatically open trusted software. This means that users are getting infected without even a hint of what's happening until the malicious app demands payment for "protection" like a digital mob boss"

So of all the millions of viruses that there are for windows users you start a thread because 1 has been specifically created for MACOSX. BTW I use both windows and MAC pc's without anti-virus software. I read this story yesterday and was wondering when this was going to appear here. Good job. You just reminded all the mac fanboy's how good their MAC'S really are. Take a bow.

What a *&^%%$# attitude in the second part of a well informed post. I posted this solely for those persons that own a MAC and would like to know or be interested about any possible threat, not for a fanatic fanboi to spark a fit of rage.

Some people are so neurotic about their toys and ownership that they get these jerk-neck reactions whenever someone posts any helpful information on MyBB and then view such information suspiciously, always considering it as an "attack" of sorts. Such a shame.

Noticed the same when I moved to Ubuntu. Everyone has some excuse why there os is best.

So what was the point of this rant?

His bubble got burst.

One of the reasons he bought a mac is because you don't need antivirus, or a firewall, because macs are unhackhable, virus free and just work.

Nothing is un-hackable

Mac's and Linux do much better than windows in this arena but don't get too cocky :)

My suspicion is that it has more to do with the relative number of users.

Not really. Mac users are becoming more significant, but the percentage affected by viruses are far lower.
