From what I have heard the attacks on SA Muslims are by Muslims from other countries. I think they are offended that our Muslims are so chilled and non-extremist and they figure by bringing murder and pain it will create a situation where local Muslims pick a side and some come over to their particular cause or something. Of course it could result in a massive backlash from SA Muslims adding to opposition to their group. Hope the latter is how it plays out.

What makes you say this?

1 -Jihadist ideology is prevelant in many places around the world. Just because we dont read or hear about it in the media does not mean it is not here amongst us.
2- Mozambique has seen a rise in attacks by radicals in the last 18 months , especially in their Northern Region.
3- Given the porous nature of our border with Mozambique, it is also not inconceivable for some radicals to cross the border and try the same here.
4- Explosives are easily made, and their are no local checks and balances when it comes to buying the ingredients on the local market.
5- Due to the large criminal fraternity in this country it is fairly easy to 'stay of the radar' so to speak.
6- it was just a matter of time before it began here.

Whatever the reason the perpetrator should be prosecuted and locked up for a long time.
Attacking innocent people for whatever reason is unacceptable.
