A 36-year-old man apparently testing the engine of his car was arrested for driving at 224km/h on the N1 near Midrand on Sunday, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the man was caught driving a grey Audi Q5 at 2am.

"He told the officers that he was a mechanic and was testing the engine when questioned about the speed," Minnaar said.

He paid a R1000 bail and was expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court soon.

What do you want us to comment on this now MickeyD? We've heard tons of stories like this before.

I was offered a Grey Q5 2.0 TFSi on Friday from the Audi Menlyn branch. Wonder if this is the same one that they wanted to take for a last drive. These stories aren't awesome to hear, not if it is a mechanic driving.
