Cape Town – A man has died on board a Mango flight, en route to Cape Town from Johannesburg, due to heart problems.

The George Herald reported the plane was diverted to George Airport around lunchtime on Thursday in order to get the middle-aged man urgent medical assistance.

The man experienced health problems an hour into the flight and George was the nearest available airport, according to Mango spokesperson Hein Kaiser.

"The crew wanted to get him medical assistance as soon as possible. Unfortunately he died upon landing. Our condolences to his family and friends in this trying time," said Kaiser.

As a result, flight JE139 was delayed at George Airport for two hours. Kaiser said the airline could not release the man’s details as yet.

This is the second unfortunate incident involving a Mango flight in less than two months.

On May 12, News24 reported that a 63-year-old woman who collapsed after boarding a Mango flight at Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday, died shortly afterwards.

Kaiser said at the time that the woman had booked a ticket for flight JE702 to Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg.

After collapsing, she was taken off the plane by the airport’s emergency personnel.

Wonder what they really did?

I mean a 737 is pretty small so some unlucky person sat next to a corpse the whole way.

Smell must have been bad.

Can only imagine another jet came to collect everybody, as there's no way after offloading a corpse, they continue to cpt and somebody had to sit where a person recently died.

He only died during landing according to the article.

Again, somebody had to squeeze past a corpse.....

Imagine your trying to remove your bag,it falls and lands on this corpse head, nasty shock that will be.....

I know we all die at some point, but this is beyond sick, its like dying on a bus or a train

No dignity in death, its quite frightening....

Nah, that takes several hours for the smells to be noticeable. If you want the really pungent stuff, the body has to be dead for several days with blowflies and other insects feeding on it to drum up that very particular reek.

As for the bowels loosening, that doesn't happen immediately. It can be immediate if the deceased has had a meal beforehand or was going to use the toilet soonish anyhow, but it doesn't happen for a lot of people. In many cases the food is still digestingh in the stomach. If there will be a bowel movement, it tan take anywhere from five to ten minutes to take place due to muscle relaxation.

Yeah and.....

It will smell and imagine sitting next to someone who stinks, and when out of decency you ask them to relive themselves, you find out your sitting next to a corpse....

I'd probably never get over that....

Was on a flight from JHB to London where there was a body stuffed behind my seat most of the way. There was no smell from it.
