A man has drowned during a baptism ceremony in Buccleuch, Johannesburg, emergency services said on Monday.

"A 30-year-old man drowned along the Juskei river in Buccleuch, north of Johannesburg during a baptism ceremony this Sunday morning at around 10am," spokesman Robert Mulaudzi.

"He was confirmed dead-on-scene."

Mulaudzi said city emergency services urged church practitioners to make sure the area was safe before conducting baptisms, or to rather conduct them in a safer environment.

Not the first time this has happened and it won't be the last, unfortunately.

Why did I read the thread title as

"Man drowns curing nepotism"

"You will die to yourself and be resurrected as a new man."

They weren't kidding around were they? :p

Been forcibly held under water never appealed to me

Apparently in some of the branches of the ZCC they will hold a candidate under the water if the begins to struggle in order to force the demons out of him.
The more he struggles the longer they will keep him under water.
I dunno if it's true. I heard it. Maybe it is just an urban legend.

Well I wouldn't be surprised if it is true.

Good, let Darwin sort those demons out :)

I can see new regulations coming where it's illegal to do baptisms unless you have a senior official mentoring the junior member. Also you will have to have signage stating that baptism could lead to death or bodily harm and you will need to sign a waiver in case of such. You will also not be allowed to perform a baptism without a member of a medical team available and present. You will also have to have an ambulance and fire engine on board. Furthermore the government will probably put out a tender to recruit, train and provide personnel for such baptisms but because the tender money will be stolen, there will be no personnel available, no one will get baptised and hence all the churches and a few hospitals will be burnt to the ground! Of course this too, is Jan van Riebeeck's fault as he was the original implementer of apartheid, carrying out the plans originally drafted by someone like Julius Caesar (that racist European bastard - I'm fairly certain he was the original architect and father of apartheid).

Can I get a "VIVA Comrades, VIVA!"
