Man falls through Spur ceiling

Somerset-West - Late on Saturday afternoon chaos literally descended from above on the Tallahassee Spur in Somerset Mall.

The cause?

Two young men who planned to abscond without paying their bill.

But their getaway plan - "escaping" through the bathroom ceiling - turned out to be somewhat flawed.

The one had nearly crawled to a spot above the restaurant entrance when the ceiling gave way and he landed with a bang on an unsuspecting diner's table.

Although it was not officially confirmed, a fist fight ensued.

I thought that this only happened in Mercurial's 'Overseas' posts. I was mistaken as we too have some 'not so bright' individuals (Outside the gauvament that is).

Poor waiters don't earn much. Do you know that most restaurants don't pay their waiters any salary. They only earn tips. Spur is one of those.

Leon Liebenberg, the duty manager that afternoon, confirmed a basic version of events. He wasn't sure what the two men had had to eat, but knew they had had a few beers.

Yeah beer doesn't make people do that. Must have been quite an exotic meal (meat) to make them trip out like that.
