Limpopo - A man was killed by a chainsaw while working on a plantation off the R71 outside Tzaneen on Wednesday, paramedics have confirmed.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found the man surrounded by his colleagues under a tree this afternoon.

The victim is understood to have been cutting a tree using a chainsaw when it appeared to have slipped, cutting his neck and chest."Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for him and he was declared dead on the scene."Authorities are investigating.

How??? It's pretty difficult to cut your own neck and chest with a chainsaw

I'll bet you that saw was jippo'd re. safety measures. I've worked with chainsaws and they are actually very safe.

They are suppose to be trained and using full ppe and and. Maybe did not do a risk assessment.

Are we gonna sit here and pretend that the tree was innocent? Probably wasn't even a tree but an ent.

And now we depend on the Dept. of Labour to investigate this accident.
The same lot who up to now could not come to a conclusion of why the pedestrian bridge collapsed on a Jhburg highway.
Or the shopping mall on the South Coast.
Eish....

Let's hope they get to the root cause and stem the deaths before it branches out into other areas.
