Man shot over Malema argument

I actually agree with that. Problem is, a dude with a psychological profile that would allow him to use a knife, baseball bat, etc, should not be permitted to own a gun, regardless. I've been in many fights with neighbours over stupid things, if I stabbed them with a knife i'd be in prison where I belong. If I shot them, why was I permitted to own a weapon? Knives are tools used for cooking, etc, baseball bats are tools for sport. What is a firearm a tool for?
We have police officers murdering citizens, selling guns surrendered at the police stations and being generally corrupt. Should be now disband the police?

Dramatic, but completely irrelevant. Nothing to do with the fact that a man who is unstable enough to shoot his neighbour over an argument about an idiot should not have been allowed to have a gun in the first place. As I've said, I've had many arguments with my neighbours, family and friends, never had to stab, beat or shoot anyone over them, though. The guy has no excuse for his behaviour, he shot his neighbour out of anger and should sit in prison for a good while. All I'm saying is regulations should be more stringent. I'm not wholly anti-gun but a firearm used by an idiot with a psych problem is just as dangerous as a criminal, I don't want neither handling guns.

I think what you are perhaps missing is, SA IS a 3rd world country and becoming so increasingly - no sense in ignoring it - the govt is not competent enough to:
1. disarm criminals
2. judge whether citizens should be allowed to have the means to protect themselves, i.e. guns
3. protect tax paying citizens via the cops, who can't/won't/don't protect the average citizen sufficiently (I'm not even talking about rogue cops that abuse their power)

so to not allow the average citizen to bear arms, is unfair - it's dog eat dog and I'd rather be an armed dog and not have THIS govt decide how I should be protected.

If I commit a crime with the weapon I carry, let the courts decide...

What really amazes me is that even if Malema isn't there, he can still cause kak!

That one! Eish! I don't know!

Me, I think he is the "AGENT"!!!!

What I'm trying to say is that the government can't even profile our boys in blue properly yet arm them to the teeth. You can't judge a whole group(gun owners or cops) by the one or two crazies that inevitably slip in.

The guy is a criminal and needs to be dealt with by the law, but don't go painting all gun owners with the same brush. I personally know 7 people who's lives where saved because they had firearms, mixed races btw. I know no one personally who shot someone because they lost their temper.

Wow, did I even once do that. I actually never mentioned any other gun owners. Please people, I'm not against guns, just the idiots that have guns and use them in idiotic ways. And the fact that you don't know anyone who has used his/her weapon in a rage does not detract from the fact that it happens, and happens way to often. A victim of a shooting is not going to care about how he/she got shot, whether through a raged idiot or a criminal, a shooting is still a shooting. I still would rather not have an idiot that is capable of using his weapon to shoot someone three times, over a political argument, being handed a gun licence.

By the way, I don't like guns, and have never wanted one. But after seeing and experiencing some nasty things, as well as the political climate and the criminal factor in SA, I would say, if you need a weapon, can control your temper, actually be shown to, clinically, be of sound mind, then go right ahead.

Agreed but I suggest we extend that method of personality analysis to police, army and government applications. And judging by my experiences this morning, especially drivers licenses. :D

That is actually the aim of the current FCA. The problem is, with like many things, governments inability to execute its own stipulations. What to do.

Especially taxi drivers. Talk about loaded weapons, those oke's are the real threat to life.

Wonder what could possibly justify someone shooting an unarmed neighbour three times though?

Malema...

A lot of the blame should go to him. He is the one inciting this hatred. I know we had racial tension before he came along, but he made the situation a lot worse.

An unarmed man!?!?! And not a stranger he thought he was in danger from, his next door neighbor!!

LOL, yip, and I thought he was supposed to be inciting black on white violence? Not the other way round. The man is a moron and should get the book thrown at him.

yip, it's really disturbing how one of these happens for every 30-odd black on white killings....

Hmm, just heard on RSG that Malema was at this guys funeral. He said that most white people are not like this guy and are probably ashamed of this guy and that most white people want this country to succeed. The first time I heard a report about him like this.
