A M16 for protection ... dumb and dumber.
An M-16 is excessive for protection, but then again, the best weapon for home defense is a rifle.
may well be, but if the situation is dire enough to require deadly force, rather not be under prepared, no?An M-16 is excessive for protection
I'm not sure I agree with this: for my money a properly setup shotgun, as in wide dispersion of shot from a very short range with easy reload a-la a pump action would be better. I mean, take a look at the ranges inside a structure: you're lucky to get 10m in a line, it's more short corridor/room type distances. Also, you have a highly charged situation where aiming with any kind of accuracy becomes, well, problematic; a shotgun goes a long way to alleviating this ..much less the psychological impact (on the intruder) of being fired upon by a shotgun - that's a LOT of boom! And then, in said high tension situation, you'd be doing well to get one or two shots off, much less any significant amount of the magazine of an assault rifle - and anyone firing 'Afrikaans'but then again, the best weapon for home defense is a rifle. The M-16, despite it's (many) faults, is light and has low recoil so Mrs. can also operate it.
Heh, as is proved time and again: never underestimate the power of human stupidity.Still, it's amazing what this guy didn't know about gun safety.
Fair comment: I personally work to 'the only empty gun is one I've checked - even if I've watched you showing me that it's empty' ..and when I hand it back to you, YOU check for yourself there and then that it is indeed (still) empty!Never clean a loaded weapon. Don't guess or assume that the gun is empty, even if you just checked it. The only gun that's empty is the one that has had its barrel removed from the receiver.
I'd go for a shotgun. No need to aim carefully...
