Hi

I recently did an update, and my laptop has become less useful than a pocket calculator.

I wanted to know if anyone else have had issues with Mandriva 2008.1 updates?

The symptoms are:

1. Anything I try open takes ages. The most noticable was firefox, which takes 2-5 minutes to open, and freezes up when browsing for 1-3 minutes. I did sort of resolve this by uninstalling this and installing firefox 3.0.1

2. Daemons None of my services start. So when I startx, sound, drives etc dont work. I can manually start these, but thats a ballache. I figure these is a log I could look in to found out why? Help!

3. It seems to think my 3G card is a dial up modem using POTS. It did eventually work though.p

I don't remember experiencing any problems updating to 2008.1
I am now running 2009.0, the upgrade was also smooth.

-How did you do the upgrade ? disc or via the network ?
-did you get any errors when doing the update ?
-are all your packages upto date at the moment ?
-If I remember correctly urpmi needed to be updated aswell....

Did you update through the Control Centre ? Did you change your repo's first ?

Updating MAndriva

Try this

1.) Go into MCC and delete all your repo's from your software manager.
2.) Go to http://mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php select the version you want to go to so for you it would be 2009. Add both official and PLF repos.
3.) Go back to MCC > Configure Media sources....... if it asks you do you want to add repos say no.
4.) Once it opens make sure all your new repo's are enabled.

log out of kde and start a console session.
change to root
then do a urpmi --auto-update
This will check through all your packages and look for newer ones once it is complete you should have 2009.

If you have already done an update like you say you have do this whole process anyway. If you have any questions I will try help.

I was already running 2008.1 (free) installed off the DVD iso. I hadnt really done any updates since installing, so there was about 300MB of updates.

The part where I kinda pulled a "lUser" is I just updated everything thing, and didnt really look what it was updating.

Yes all my packages are up to date at the moment except

How would I upgrade to 2009 without using the repos and using the dvd?
---

I did the upgrade via control centre. I had updated the repos, so it would of pulled from telkom and sun.ac.za mirrors. I couldnt find an update log anywhere to see if there were issues or what failed.

So you updated using the 2009 DVD ?

No, when I put in the CD and tried to boot off it, it gets to a menu where I can install, but when I select the install it fails.

Got this problem sorted. It was related to my network profiles. I deleted my second network profile, and now Mandrivia is back to owning and kicking ass. :D Tx for your help guys. Still no idea why 3G thinks it's dialup, but it works.

My 2009 is doing the same but as you said least it works

@Web: Yeah, although a little piece of me dies every time I want to connect and I see POTS. Reminds me of my days living in a basement with only dialup as my access to the WWW.

If I find a way to change this to "Pr0n time" or anything else will let you know.
