Getting the internet working on Mandriva using the E220 was certainly easier then Ubuntu:).

The username and password can remain blank. So all you would need is the pin (if it is activated).

Mandriva package in progress

I did but couldn't get it to work  but havent given up yet as its a really cool little program.

The version of python-twisted in 2008.0 seems to be too old for the vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux package. However, I have it working on 2008.1 and current cooker (pre-2009.0). I have one or two more things to finish up, but I intend to upload the package, as well as the huaweiAktBbo utility, to contrib for Mandriva, as well as submit it to contrib/backports for 2008.1.

I would appreciate some testing, so if you're interested, send me a PM (I don't know how widely used the E220 is outside South Africa, so I doubt there will be many cooker users testing it, and not many Mandriva users either besides people on this forum).

Thanks to ranger I now have vmc working on Mandriva. Awesome stuff

Sorry Saule had to go out and wife was nagging, below is details I got from Ranger. You are looking for package VMC.

Make sure you have enabled the contrib/backports source in the software sources manager (or, if you haven't added all the sources yet, click Add, choose a .za mirror like mirrors.telkomsa.net, click ok, then check the enabled column for 'Contrib Backports'), then you should be able to find vmc in the package manager.

You may have to:
# chgrp daemon /etc/ppp/pap-secrets /etc/ppp/chap-secrets /etc/ppp/peers
# chmod g+rwX /etc/ppp/pap-secrets /etc/ppp/chap-secrets /etc/ppp/peers

Then add yourself to the daemon group:

# gpasswd -a username daemon

Then, log out, log back in, and start Vodafone Mobile Connect Card Driver for Linux from the "Internet" section of the menu.

If you get stuck let us know here Ranger is far more clued up here good luck but it works a charm just like on the other distros I installed beta3 it also offered beta2 .

I added the Telkom mirror to the updates list and did a complete update (194 updates; 300+MB) but didn't see VMC in the update list. Will check again this evening.

open terminal run urpmi --auto-update
i use the IS repositories or use the ones from easy-urpmi you need the backport ones

k now go to software management type vmc in the search box hit enter and it should show come up ?

u can also just type urpmi vmc in terminal
let me know

Hi Saule did you get any error's when you 1st ran it regarding permissions with beta 3 , i installed beta 2 got some error messages but ran the commands that ranger suggested and then all was fine

No, I didn't get any errors. But I'd already run ranger's commands when trying to get the original vmc to work.

One problem I'm having with the Vodafone software is that usage stats doesn't go past 10MB in any one session:confused:.

@web, are you getting the same?

Edit: Nevermind, I changed the preference settings:o.
