Mandriva: Q & A thread

WMV? Dood stay off the pr0n. :P

Will dig out a WMV and give it a try, but I'd be suprised if VLC wouldn't play it. Was it over the network, or local?

It's not that VLC doesn't want to play it, he states that it crashes short after loading.

Start VLC from the command line and post the error message here when it crashes again.

I downloaded VLC. I tried playing WMV files, but it just closes without playing:confused:.

Try disabling desktop effects, and then try again, make sure you log out before retrying. Let me know did this with my laptop as well.

Some Top Billing Videos actually.

Desktop effects were not enabled to begin with. So I enabled it and tried, then disabled and tried again. Still the same.

Ok, you were right:o. I only checked the "Desktop Effects" option under "Configure your desktop" which was already off anyway. When I disabled "3D Desktop Effects" ie. "Compiz Fusion" in the "Control Centre", VLC was able to play the WMV files.

:D If you lucky and now re-enable desktop effects your video might still work, doesn't on my wifes laptop does on mine, go figure.
