Manto hailed as hero

um:erm: you expect the state to provide medical treatment to all it's citizens that is of the same standard as the (incredibly expensive) private healthcare?
Why not?

All members of government should be required by law to use state hospitals and doctors. At the very least those who are in charge of the health system and their superiors all the way to the top of government. We'll soon see them getting things sorted out when they and their families have to stand for 8 hours to see a doctors because state hospitals can't manage something as simple as an appointment system, when they and their families risk being maimed or killed by having to get treatment in public hospitals. If nothing else all these idiots will end up dead, and whomever replaces them will give serious consideration to fixing the system or risk their own demise.

And to expect her to not take advantage of the freedoms she fought for by going to a private hospital which she can afford as any other woman employed on that level is equally ridiculous.
So much for solidarity with the people. Seems most of what she and her ilk fought for was the right to rob the people and live in luxury while the people rot.

No, it's a choice. No-one is suddenly struck with abusing alcohol, they choose to drink it when they know they are unable to keep it in check.
Nobody chooses to be an alcoholic. As you say, no-one is suddenly struck with abusing alcohol - it creeps up on you over time. One day you are enjoying a drink with your varsity buddies and then you're enjoying a drink after work and one day you realise you are an alcoholic. It happens to millions of normal people. Sometimes people self-medicate with it, after a trauma for example, or intense grief. Nobody decides to become an alcoholic. Scientific research has shown that there is a genetic predisposition towards alcoholism. If you disagree then do the research and publish your results...

Why would anyone want to work somewhere where they are punished for taking on the job. Hey! I've got a fantastic job for you - you won't get paid very well and you'll have to give up the constitutional rights everyone else enjoys and you may end up dead and... wait... what do you mean you don't want it, where are you going? Noxibox... we need a new health minister... interested?

Nobody chooses to be an alcoholic.

Nobody chooses to become addicted to nicotine either . It just creeps up on you.

And some are psychologically predisposed to nicotine addiction.

That didn't stop manto from doing her best to eradicate it. But I must feel sympathy because she as minister of health was a wino ?

Daveza, get this through your brain: Nicotine addiction is not the same as alcohol addiction, OK, nobody ever died from giving up smoking.
Manto did her best to eradicate smoking in public places. She should be applauded for that. And this has nothing to do with feeling sympathy for her. It's a derail. Addiction discussions are for a totally different thread and was only brought up because some nameless sources claimed Manto needed a new liver because she was an alcoholic even though a number of (named) doctors and professors disputed this...

Would you eat at a restaurant knowing the chef always gets take aways?

I don't know daveza. If you couldn't afford to buy food would you eat for free at a homeless shelter knowing the cook will be going out for dinner at a restaurant when he is done cooking for you?

And what did she do to eradicate foetal alcohol syndrome, shebeens, family abuse due to alcohol availability and all the other alcohol related crimes?

Nobody ever claimed in court their crime was committed while being under the influence of nicotine.

Nobody ever beat their kids while being under the influence of nicotine.

Nobody ever killed anyone on the roads while under the influence of nicotine.

What is your point exactly.
Alcohol is the worst, most dangerous, most addictive drug on the planet.
We get that. Beating your kids is against the law. Driving under the influence is against the law. Selling alcohol to minors is against the law. What exactly did you want Manto to do about that? You can accuse her of many things but beating her kids and killing someone while driving under the influence are not among them... Or are you saying she should not have bothered with creating smoking regulations because she was an alcoholic? I don't know what you're trying to say:cry:

Simply put - did you ever hear her speak out regarding the dangers of alcohol abuse ( or use/abuse in her case ) ? Did she do anything at all to lobby for greater sentences or fines for breaking the law as regards alcohol ?

Seems she was hell bent on taking the speck out of others eyes while ignoring the log in hers.

Seeing as how she was addicted to the stuff it's hardly surprising I suppose.

Shall we start on her being a convicted thief or shall we rather carry on hailing her as a hero.

Dreamking:

+1

Nice find.

On alcohol, I am glad to announce that 12 months from now every container of an alcoholic beverage should, by law, contain health messages highlighting the negative effects of alcohol consumption.

Was this implemented ?

We call on people to abstain from sex, be faithful to their partners and use condoms.

That would work . Hmmm

Do not smoke or abuse alcohol and drugs

Right.

I don't drink enough to have noticed, but I did just have a look at a bottle of cider in the fridge here and it does have a warning about drinking and driving on the label so I'm guessing it was implemented...
