I'm sure it was a typo and should have read

Manto failed as hero

or

Manto hailed as zero

or even

Manto hailed as Nero.

If Hitler and Stalin lived in an era where they had the opportunity to oppose apartheid they'd be hailed as heroes in South Africa...not unlike Mugabe.

What beetroot healing recipes ? Please explain. I followed the issue of HIV /Aids in this country very closely for a long time and never once recall anyone ever claiming beetroot could heal anything. You're obviously totally uninformed on the issue so perhaps consider withholding your ignorant opinion.
 
Three threads and not a single person can show me any incident of her denying AIDS , Claiming HIV is not the cause of AIDS or claiming beetroot or garlic could cure anything. Yet you yap on with the same misinformation. Wow, guys. You're complex organisms. Accomodate and assimulate new data so you can effectively adapt to the stimuli in your environment.
 
She was a scapegoat.
I guess that could be seen as heroic to the organization she represented and sacrificed her dignity for...
 
From my point of view, I actually don't care if she claimed HIV doesn't cause AIDS...

She hampered the rollout of ARV's and thus is responsible for MANY deaths.

In the other thread, a link to an interview with John Robbie showed how she just side stepped the question of whether HIV causes AIDS. All she needed to do was provide a simple 'yes' or 'no' but her political tap dancing just illustrated how woefully underqualified she was to be a Minister...let alone the Minister of Health.
 
@ Therooster.... And I spose Thabo Mbeki came up with "HIV doesnt cause AIDS" statement all by himself...There is video footage of Mbeki in Parliment saying ....and I quote..."HIV cannot cause AIDS....How can a virus cause a syndrome?...Its not possible"
Where do you think this information came from? Julius Malema??? Try doing some research before you make silly statements...

Do you suggest she denied hiv caused AIDS? Do you suggest she claimed beetroot and garlic could cure AIDS ?

Simple straight forward answer will suffice.

I challenge you to provide any video footage or even a transcript of any speech by Mbeki or Manto where either of them say "HIV doesn't cause AIDS".
Just one example will do, Mr Researcher...:whistle:

Bull !!

There is no such statement. You're taking some entirely different out of context. It you who has not done his research.

Mbeki's set out to suggest that in the poor African context the simplistic version of HIV= AIDS= Take antiretrovirals needed to be revised and debated. Big pharamacy and UNAIDS and WHO etc set out to smear him as an AIDs denialist so that this debate never took place and the media jumped on the bandwagon. Let's be honest with billions of dollars at stake there certainly is an agenda to see ARV's rolled out. And when many , many credible scientists at the time were saying that they probably will kill people with poor diets faster than cure them , it was extemely responsible for Mr Mbeki to want to debate this issue before acting.

After all drugs designed as a type of chemo therapy might work great in healthy people , but give them to people who have a bad diet and already low immune systems and anyone sane and sensible would suggest that ..woah cowbow...let's first talk about this. But again , big pharmacy was having none of that.

We can look back now at studies done after the fact and some suggest now that ARV's are the ebst way to treat people in the African context. It's still not set in stone. At the time though it was a very important thing that needed to be properly thought out before implementing. At the time I had exactly the same views as Mr Mbeki and I dare say they were far more intelligent and sophisticated that the average Koos kortbroek out there.

In fact to really get into the debate I would quite possibly still not take ARV's if diagnosed with HIV. I would definately eat a healthier diet. I might even load up on beetroot and garlic.
