Manual vs Automatic

Yes, never forget, there is always a MkI faster than you.
You are hereby sentenced to driving 10000km in a toyota yasis for calling a citi golf a Mk 1
Repeat offences will result in sentence being altered to a Bajaj Cute.

You’re not wrong, people have different needs & requirements.

On top of that many attach different weightings to different things.

One also has to remember that there are automatics and then there are automatics, ADSG is quite different to a torque converter and everything is different to a bloody CVT.

My ex-wife had a 3 cylinder 1l Yaris, the fact that I had to drive it and I was married to her should be punishment enough?

That has no acceleration.

I was in an 0.8 Yaris. I could run faster.

The new Yaris ie 2018-2021 are really nice though. 1.5l, Apple Carplay, Android Auto. Very nice indeed. And its a bit raised too

Is that why she is your ex? :p

No acceleration and like many small cars in that segment, it was like sitting in tupperware, plastic everywhere.

It's also cheaper to buy, run and fix a citi golf with no aircon and manual windows.

Does that make it better?
If you are on a budget manual is definitely the way to go in terms of repair costs, all else being equal with many autos even with relatively basic repairs you won’t get much change from R50k if anything. It’s definitely something to consider. Aircon is a non negotiable though, summer in South Africa with no Aircon, gtfo!!

Don't forget how much a clutch and DMF change can cost these days, I remember paying R12k or so a few years back on my B6 Audi A4 Avant and that was parts from Goldwagen and private labour from a friend who was a very senior VW master technician.

Yep some manuals do have super pricey clutch parts, it’s advisable to research that before buying a vehicle. I have seen some crazy clutch prices like R20k just for the DMF, granted that is normally not on more entry level vehicles but still it’s worth checking.
