Many holes in the SABC plot

Does it really matter if they screw up? Wont government just bail them out every time? Damn I would sleep all day at the office too if I had a safety net the size of a football field.

Goverment does not really help them out that much it would seem.

Government subsidy accounts for only 2% (R75m) of the SABC’s revenue, a drop in the ocean compared with the R3,6bn income the group receives from commercial streams. State funding for 2007/2008 fell by 10,7% from R84m.

Its a shame that such imperative articles would have senior heads rolling in other parts of the world, and here it only brings.

thats what happens when u provide a service noone needs. ppl wont willingly cough up 4 a service they didnt want, that also happens to be substandard...
 
Yeah its a terrible injustice and a great insult to ordinary people who don't watch SABC at all to have to cough up money for that garbage not to mention their corruption and money wastage, the suspended CEO's salary being a prime example. Oh well it's all part of ANC corruption, inefficiency and incompetence. South Africa is heading closer to becoming the a new Somalia.
 
Just typical government-style incompetence, fraud and don't care attitude.

So with this trend they'll be millions in red for the current financial year.

What really ticks me off is the number of repeats (yes some might be viewer requested) they show, while allowing R76m of purchase content to expire. Do they have some kind of internal lottery to decide what gets shown when because it certain doesn't seem like anyone is steering this sinking ship?

The SABC should be closed down and the frequencies given to other commercial broadcasters, lets face it the SABC is all commercial anyway. Then we would not have to pay any licence, of which I hate paying one cent, but pay it as I don't want the licence Gestapo knocking on my door. If they must keep the licence, then a system of tick boxes on the back, one for each of the languages spoken in SA, including German, Chinese and any others. ONE LICENCE ONE VOTE. Then base the programmes on that. We will see who pays for the system.
 
Who watches their bull5hi7 anyways!? Between their rubbish programming, crap sports coverage of all sorts, CONTINUITY presenters who are totally uncalled for and unheard of on every other network in the world and their bias news coverage, I think they're a total waste of time. In fact all the shows I need I source from elsewhere.

Yeah well some of us have to pay license fees for this BS that we never watch. Whether it's DVD, DivX, Xvid, MKV etc etc, it's still viewable on a TV screen and therefore we've got to pay... daylight robbery. But nothing new.
