Hey guys,

My ADSL was installed today at last and now with this new router, i can't seem to figure out how to forward ports on it. :o

Yes, i am a noob and i have visited portforward.com and they don't have the same router there.

The only way i could get it to work was by using the Easy Setup CD which came with the router and using the advanced config tab, managed to find a virtual server option and foward ports there.

Problem is, whenever i do that, it sets everything on the router back to factory defaults, meaning if i want to forward another port, i have to forward all my ports from scratch again

If i open up my routers config page, i can't find anything to do with port forwarding there at all.

If anyone knows how to resolve this issue, it would be much appreciated
If you've got the same router, even better;)

PS. I have got a static IP and stuff already

Is there anything to do with Virtual Server under the firewall tab. Otherwise look for "nat" settings
edit: Or napt settings

Getting utorrent up and running

Hi guys

I've got the same router as Peppercorns and read this thread with interest - I'm trying to get utorrent up and running properly on my machine, and the only way I've been able to do it thus far has been to completely disable my router's firewall.. which I'm not too happy about

I've got a static IP address, and have opened up port 16000 outbound on my router's firewall so that I can run the "test if port is forwarded correctly" tool. I've also gone into "advanced NAT configuration" and set:

Global - 0.0.0.0 (or "Same as interface address")
Internal - my static IP
Type - TCP
External Port Range, Start - 39456 (as picked by utorrent)
External Port Range, End - 39456
Internal Port Range, Start - 39456
Internal Port Range, End - 39456

But, alas, the test reads:
"Error! Port 39456 does not appear to be open"

What am I missing?

Thanks very much in advance,

regards,
d.

Marconi Premium Combo Port Forwarding

Hi Guys,

I am not a noob to this sort of thing but I have to confess that this freaking router has got me stumped as to how I can get the port forwarding working. I have setup a dyndns account, I have a static LAN IP, I have tried the advanced NAT settings and they dont do squat. Has anyone actually got the port forwarding working? LIke say to have RDP work (port 3389)?

Cheers

Not really.

I contacted Marconi, and they sent me two word docs with instructions and screenshots. The first explained how to open up ports in the firewall, the other explained how to add a reserved mapping in the NAT configuration. I tried both, but couldn't stuff to work 100%. The only thing that worked for me (and others) was to turn the router's firewall off completely. arg!

Good luck, if you get it sorted, please post back to this thread :)

cheers,
d.

I also tried to get uTorrent, Sharezaa, MSN and Skype working on my Marconi Premium Combo router given to me by Telkom.
I went to portforward.com to forward my ports, but it didnt work! The only way was to disable my firewall-not the smartest thing to do :( I'm begining to think this is a scheme by Telkom...

portforwarding

hey all...

for anyone still interested, the port forwarding for the marconi premium combo is under FIREWALL>ADVANCED NAT CONFIG>ADD RESERVED MAPPING

Then enter the following:
global: 0.0.0.0
Internal: whatever your static IP Adress is
Transport: ALL
External Port range start: 5198
External Port range end: 5200
Internal Port range start: 5198
internal port range end: 5200

from what i understand, you have to open those ports before you can do anything else. once i did that, utorrent automatically saw the port 6881-6889 range i had set.

ps: innitially i had set up a trigger to see the 6881-6889. this worked fine for about a month and then cut me off. once i set up the reserved mapping it worked straight away, so set up a mapping instead of a trigger.

hope this helps.

the full details can be found on
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Marconi/Telkom-PremiumCombo/Echolink.htm

i forgot to add... to set up a trigger:
FIREWALL>disable security, firewall, intrusion detection (you can't save your nat advanced feature changes with these enabled)
-then click on disable NAT to internal interfaces
once done
click on security trigger configuration
click NEW TRIGGER
and then set up the following

transport type: tcp
Port Number Start: 6881
Port Number End: 6889
Max Activity level: 999
Address translation type: both

everything else leave as its default.

once thats done reenable your security and your NAT internal interface (you won't be able to save without doing this.. and you'll end up being booted offline without your interface up)

then save your settings.

i have no idea if you need the mapping and the trigger but my torrents, skype, pretty much everything are working now... so i'm not deleting nutting.

Hi All

I have Marconi Prem Combo from telkom.

Please help me :( I'm trying to allow mms:// on my Media services

I'm trying to add a reserved mapping for port 3690 as instructed on http://portforward.com/english/rout.../Telkom-PremiumCombo/Windows_Media_Server.htm

But when after entering all the information, when I click add. The ports are saved as 0 ie. the start adn end ports are all zeros..

All i'm trying to solve is getting access to listening this link.

mms://radio2.opendns.co.za/gagasi

Oops,

My Problem was solved.

On Current Security Policies ( external - internal )

I allowed outbound for port 554.

:D

Teeninvader,

Is this "Current Security Policies" an option on the router ?

I have the same problem when adding a reserved mapping that it sets the port values to 0.

I have a VPN issue and need to open port 500.

I'm still stumped on this one. Everytime I try to reserve a port the port values get set to 0. Anyone managed to get this right?
