Hi Guys,

Ok so my wife invented something which no mother can do without when it comes to babies 1 - 6 months. We're doing the Patent thing (Seeing the Attornies on Saturday)

Now this is truly an invention that will sell globally and we'll register the patent in SA, UK, USA. Now that is the easy part. The biggest problem for us is none of us know anything about launching a product. How do we get in contact with retailers to sell the product to?

Do we go to the head office and make an appointment with the "Buyers" or do we go into business with another company and piggyback on their contacts? I'm not for the piggyback idea as that means less $ in our pocket :p (Meaning I'm willing to do the hard miles in getting our own retailers)

Pls guys, anyone with any info that could help us would be greatly appreciated.

Meaning?

Pay rent for shelf space? Or something like that?

What about ( and i know this is going to sound stupid) But Miss Oprha has this thing where she ask people to show their inventions. And if she thinks its cool she helps you (Puts it on her show and website)
The woman with the doodles for crocks was on her show and we all know how big that is now.

Or how about contacting a baby magazine and giving away some to begin with?

There is a baby show in Santon convention Centre in October. Now if we at least have the Patent pending rights we would be starting there. That is about how far my marketing ideas could go :o

Thanx I like the MsO idea, but obviously she would want a cut of our money in return. She's a scally woman that one :p

I swear the other day your wife also invented something ... or she wanted to start a t-shirt business or something ... non?

Cool.

I'm not into marketing so i'm not much help, but i wish you all the luck in the world.

Hope you make millions!!

And when your wife allows we want pics of the twins :)

I would suggest getting hold of distributors rather than retailers. If you sell the idea to one of them they will get your product in to all the different retailers.

I don't know any names but I would suggest doing some research in to who supplies places like Baby city etc.

You pay a price like R30000-R150000 depends on the product, plus you pay for the shelf space, hight and if you want a corner shelf ,even more.

Well lawyers would know about patents etc. You would need legal advice.
