'Doctor Strange’ Early Reactions Are Coming In – So How Is It?

This past Wednesday, the first press screenings for Doctor Strange were held in New York and Los Angeles. Once midnight hit, the social media press embargo was lifted and many were free to tweet their thoughts away about the next Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film before it arrives early next month nationwide. Members of the press are not able to publish their reviews until this Sunday. However, their tweets are telling about how they feel about the movie.

The overall impression is that the film will be a visual masterpiece and has probably the best action sequences of any Marvel film so far. They also commented that this follows the Marvel formulaic origin story we first saw in Iron Man, so they aren’t reinventing the wheel story-wise. Check out a couple of their comments...

Strange’s journey along the path of enlightenment is a typically quicksilver affair: funny, thrilling, and engrossing, it sprinkles some fresh ingredients into the MCU pot to ensure this doesn’t feel like just another spandex saga. It introduces the title character just in time to take his place in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. On this showing, he’s a welcome addition to the universe.

Directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister), Doctor Strange is typical of a Kevin Feige-produced Marvel movie, almost seamlessly introducing the protagonist as if he’s an old friend. An origin story crafted with the minimum of fuss (or background), it briskly establishes Strange’s aloof disposition. And it doesn’t take long before the moment that will change his life: a violent car crash leaving him unable to use to the most vital tools of his trade, his hands.

Christian Film Critic Says ‘Doctor Strange’ is “Dangerous Introduction” to “Demonic O

Nerd Bastards own Mel Valentin sure seemed to like Doctor Strange, but as the saying goes, “you can’t please everyone,” and it takes a special kind of bizarre disposition to look at a movie like Doctor Strange and label it “abhorrent.” That’s not a statement of quality though, that’s the way one critic is labeling the subject matter of Doctor Strange, a movie about a surgeon that takes up a new career in the exciting field of fighting extra-dimensional monsters and protecting the fabric or reality. Or as Dr. Ted Baehr calls it, “a dangerous introduction to demonic occult deception.”

Behr, who’s chair of the Christian Film & Television Commission, has given Doctor Strange a stinging -4 or “Abhorrent” rating. “[Doctor Strange is] a dangerous introduction to demonic occult deception,” Behr’s review said. “The Bible clearly warns against the kind of occult practices and sorcery the hero in this movie learns to do, in Deuteronomy 18:9-12 and Galatians 5:20. Also in the movie, the hero’s New Age, occult guru teaches there may be no afterlife, that death is truly the end, and that this is a good thing.”

Reviews are good but not sure I'm going to watch it. Looks to be more of the same, the visual effects do look amazing though
 
I'll check it out. Read it has the same problems as the rest of the Marvel films when it comes to the villains.
 
Watched it yesterday. I loved it. Might be because it's Benedict Cumberbatch but I enjoyed it a lot
 
Saw it as well yesterday - opted for 2d, as I think 3d is just a gimmick. Special effects were amazing, title character was deliciously arrogant until he got his arse whooped. It was indeed more of the same, but entertaining none the less.
 
Will most likely pick up the visual effects Oscar next year.

From box office numbers it looks like another winner form Disney.

I suspect a other 2 or 3 Dr Strange movies that tie up to The Avengers timeline.

All the Marvel movies and TV series tie into the timeline.

All these movies are being set up for the Infinity War big bash movie.
