GREAT MILLS, Md. — A male student at a high school in Maryland shot a 16-year-old girl he knew with a handgun on Tuesday, spurring a confrontation with an armed deputy stationed at the school, the authorities said.

When the chaos was over, perhaps a minute after it began, the girl was critically injured, a 14-year-old boy was hurt and the gunman, whom the authorities identified as [criminal scum], 17, was fatally wounded.

Yet another sicko trying to shoot up a easy target. Where is all the news and outcry over this incident?

I would have thought with all the milage the anti-gunners got out of the terrible shooting in Florida and, for the lack of a better word, the "good" it did for their cause they would leap at this to keep fanning those flames to push their agenda.

I guess there is none, because it does not check any of the boxes to suit the anti-gun.

No innocents killed.
No scary "assult rifles" only a hand gun.
Good guy with gun stops the bad guy. (Armed resource office on site)
Oh and in a state with some of the strictest gun laws in the country.
And it wasn't legal for him to have the gun.

"No innocents killed" because "No scary "assult rifles" only a hand gun" because it was "in a state with some of the strictest gun laws in the country" and dealt with quickly and effectively by trained security from the "Armed resource office on site".

So it actually does check all "of the boxes to suit the anti-gun", just as a "success" story, those are my air quotes this time. Only your warped view looking for drama here.

What absolute BS... if this proved your point the anti-gunners in the US would be screaming it from the proverbial roof tops. But they aren't and it doesnt.

Stricter gun laws, including regisistration and permit to purchase and this guy still got a gun.

I guess when the facts don't work in your favour we just scream hypocrisy and personal insults of morons and tards...

Funny how it was fine when they were agreeing with you, but when it's against you then suddenly it's bad...

That was the discussion in the previous shooting too. When we pointed out that most school shootings happen by handgun it was ignored and everyone focused on the assault rifles. In this scenario the shooter got capped. we don't know if he wanted to shoot more victims or just the one. There have been shootings with handguns that took many a lives. The OP is correct in highlighting that:

. Gun laws not matter how strict will not prevent these shootings
. Shootings will happen, it's best to have someone on hand who can stop them with force.

All the other issues I can see being dragged in now will obviously make for another 500 page debate I'm not going to part take in.

As discussed before, I'm not for a weapons ban or anything crazy, however his point does not make sense.

You're looking at it from the assumption that bolded part had no effect when it's entirely possible that the reason that the top and bottom are possible is because it's a hand gun and not "assult rifles".

I agree the angle/spin he tried to put on it serves no purpose and obviously already makes this discussion void of any levelheaded debate. He is right about those two points though in my humblest opinion.

Thing is, I'm with you on that. It's doubtful that there will be a ban on weapons so if the frequency stays the same, then there need to be some sort of protection put in place for students.

However, if the GOP keeps pulling funding for schools, who pays for that protection? If the GOP keeps blocking higher pay for teachers, why should they be assuming that risk if the school board/state isn't willing to pay for outside protection?

You can't have your cake and eat it too, no matter what Betsy DeVos tries to tell you.

Georgia teacher arrested after firing gun in school, police say

A north Georgia high school teacher was arrested on Wednesday after he barricaded himself in a classroom and fired a shot from his handgun out of a window, police said.

No one was injured in the incident at Dalton High School, except for a female student who injured an ankle running through the school, police spokesman Bruce Frazier said.

The shooting about 85 miles north of Atlanta heightened the already tense debate around guns in schools in the wake of the deadly mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, two weeks ago.

The incident began about 11:30 a.m. when Randal Davidson, a 53-year-old social studies teacher, refused to let students into his classroom while he was in his planning period, Frazier said. When the principal put a key in the door in an attempt to enter, Davidson fired a shot from a handgun through an exterior window of the classroom, Frazier said.
The school went into lockdown, and police quickly arrived and evacuated the immediate area around his classroom. After about 30 to 45 minutes, Davidson agreed to surrender and was taken into custody without further incident, Frazier said.
