Maserati Levante

Maserati Levante Trofeo 2019 review

Should I buy one?

In terms of outright ability and true premium appeal the Levante Trofeo is just shaded by the Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo - but then what isn’t in this class? Yet while the Maserati is a touch softer and less controlled than the Cayenne, it’s more approachable, on the road at least.

Keep in the back of your mind the car’s mass and size and you can cover the ground at an alarming rate. And then there’s that glorious masterpiece of an engine, that packs a real punch and musicality - it’s almost worth the price of entry alone. It’s still a flawed car, the Levante, but it has a charm and personality that’s rare in this type of car. Sure it’s not cheap, but as a characterful alternative to the usual suspects it deserves a closer inspection.

Maserati Levante Trofeo heading to South Africa ... with a whopping 433 kW!

The Maserati Levante Trofeo is expected to launch in South Africa in the first quarter of 2020, offering a whopping 433 kW and 730 N.m from its Ferrari-built twin-turbo 3,8-litre V8.

Equipped with what the Italian firm describes as “one of the most powerful engines ever fitted to a Maserati”, the Levante Trofeo – revealed back in March 2018 at the New York International Auto Show – will sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in a claimed 3,9 seconds, before topping out at 304 km/h.

The eight-cylinder mill, which is assembled by Ferrari in Maranello, boasts the highest output per litre of any powerplant fitted to a Maserati and sends its oomph to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF.

So, how much are you looking at for the flagship version of the SUV, which slots in above the Levante Diesel and Levante S? Well, while Maserati South Africa hasn’t officially revealed pricing, a CARmag.co.za source has confirmed a starting figure of R3,5-million.

Maserati says this derivative’s bespoke exterior styling updates were mainly focused on the lower front facia and rear bumper. The side air intakes up front, for instance, feature a more aggressive design, while carbon-fibre side bezel blades and a carbon-fibre splitter have also been added to the mix.

Range Topping Maserati Levante Trofeo On Its Way To South Africa

Maserati South Africa has confirmed that the most potent Levante ever will be heading to our shores.

The Levante Trofeo packs a whopping 580 hp (433 kW) from a Ferrari-built 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 156 horsepower per litre. This grunt will get the SUV to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and will run to a top speed of 304 km/h.

Pricing is estimated to be around R3,5 million for a fully spec’d car.

I would take a Urus hey lol. Just love the whole look.
My brother's boss, have one, honestly, not really a Lambo, feels more like a Pumped Up Q8.
I have seen a lot of Bentayga in Sandton, not impressed. But the need GT looks really nice.

But that’s exactly why I love the Bentayga. It’s so ugly yet so beautiful, I feel the same way about the Cullinan too. Just love them
