yep. no big suprise that it's not fixed - can't say that I expected any different.

Phoning Telkom today to get ADSL, how long does it take for them to install?

fck this... I've had enough of their crap, this connection is NEVER going to be fixed... never! At least with Telkom you know what you're gonna get - better the devil you know and all that crap...

When you order ADSL make sure you get an order reference and a contact person and then bug the hell out of them - from experience I know this makes the difference between waiting months or weeks. If you order ADSL and do nothing the application will keep on getting "stuck" in the process, and they seldom bother to phone you to let you know what's going on. Depending on where you live, it could take between two weeks and never to get ADSL installed. That being said, it's still easier to organise than mywireless ever was.

YOU KNOW i've never heard of anyone getting an adsl installation that was not stuck late or had hassles with what the hell is wrong with ZA? It makes me ashamed that a company like telkom is international. Do these companies know nothing of customer service? Blaming their customers for their errors, getting documents lost thats just pathetic, taking up to a month to install an adsl line?
and now telkum is cutting jobs so u can just expect the amount of time u have to wait to go up as well.

Proud South african rip offs.

Hiya Kai,

Well they told me "within 21 working days" when I ordered it on Monday.

The "nice" thing about going back to Telkom is that you have no false hopes as to their levels of service. Still, better than no levels of service........

Order your ADSL via your ISP, not directly from Telkom. I'm told that MWEB manages to get it done quicker that way. I wonder how many bottles of whiskey/brandy it costs them? If you must order it from Telkom, don't phone 10219. Phone 080000000000

I think it's time to remind the public how bad MySlowness is. I have posted a comment at
http://www.itweb.co.za/sections/internet/2004/0408230922.asp
and I would encourage others to do so too.

Maybe once you cancel you could set up something like Kazaa to download the hell out of everything until they disconnect you ?

I am one of those suckers who bought the modem outright....

I dont know much but what little I know of Contracts of Sale and what I do know about it is this;

promises made during the sale form part of the Contract and how "well" sentech will perform and how fast the connection would perform forms part of the "contract" protecting the buyer which is part of every sale made from a chappy to a car.

The Sentech contract is in Mora already due to their actions where they failed to meet the promised stipulated junk.... not mentioning their breach when they sent out private information to other people....

The contract of sale for NoWire customers being we were promised "128, 256 and 512" none of us were told about contended service... none of us were told about AUP's... none of us were told about anything and we bought the modem to be used with Sentech and took the contract with NoWire or Sentech as a bundle, You cant use the modem without the ISP....

If the one fails then the other fails or in this case IF we had known that the speeds were this bad, or if we had known it was contended, or if we had known we couldnt play online games, or if we had known about packet loss, or, or, or.... THINK about the scenarios..... IF you had known about A single situation would you have bought the modem?

This makes modem sale breached, was a misrepresentation made to you about the service... 128, 256, 512...... was something about the service NOT told to you.... "contended".... which would make you NOT wnat the modem AT ALL because of the problems you are experiencing now... I know I was NOT told certain things which I WOULD have liked to know and if I had known I would have liked to think about it LONG AND HARD before I actually handed over money to someone

The recourse either agreement company action or small courts action you can get the purchase price, and then the option of any emotional/hassle bla bla damages if the claim is proved to be valid in your favor....

I dont have a law degree, seek professional help before doing anythig like this....

Hope this helps people who are in my position....

To add to this, something that is worth keeping in mind that may add some legal 'fuel' to a case against Sentech (although IANAL) is that Sentech sold us contracts *based on* the service they had provided up until around March, when *everyone* was getting essentially *full* speed *all the time*. They falsely led us to believe that this was what the service was going to be like, then when they'd signed up a certain number of customers onto contracts (enough to start making a profit?) they pulled the plug on the bandwidth. What we *believed* we were buying, and what was certainly reasonable for us to expect, was what we had in the beginning. Legally, Sentech basically said: "come sign contracts, this is what you'll get, no caps and basically full speeds at 128k/256k/512k packages". THAT is what they SOLD US, and THAT is what we can only have been expected to believe we were getting when we signed the contracts. That is NOT what they're providing now, the product that they're actually *providing* is: "effectively capped, massively contended, with bandwidth seemingly never available". It's a different product. Classic "bait and switch".

If Sentech had provided crappy speeds since the start, then they'd have a leg to stand on in court, as they would have been able to argue that we could reasonably have known that the speeds were going to be poor when we signed up. But Sentech specifically provided BRILLIANT speeds at the beginning, and then specifically and knowingly CHANGED the quality of their service from brilliant speeds to slow speeds *after* we'd signed contracts based on the brilliant speeds. So although "what we were told and what we weren't told" may add weight to any legal case, I think the most relevant thing is not what we were or weren't "told" about what the service would be like, but the *actual* performance of the *actual product itself* initially.

(Next they'll probably try tell us "oh, the '128 package'? that doesn't mean 128kbps, that's just the product name!" haha .. kidding)
