Massive DStv growth, higher programming costs

Yeah they never say how much subscribers they have per package e.g 1.5 million subscriber for dstv premium and 2 million for dstv compact etc.

I have a hunch that the number of premium subscribers have either decreased or there was minimal growth.
Because they have been promoting premium extensively in the last few months with open weekends etc

"DSTV PROGRAMMING COST SOAR"
SO a nice way of saying expect a massive increase next year In your subscription fees.

It's the damn sports broadcast rights, take that away and we might have a different story...oh,and fix the interwebz access.

several new channels like kyknet & kie = shame this not a new channel - it is a rerun of yesteryear's kyknet and it costs them zilch! And the new mnet channels ...... la la la

So in summary an 18% increase in revenue.Of this 10% can be attributed to the annual increase and balance is probably TOP TV customers moving over to DSTV so overall not that impressive.
They don't breakdown the numbers per package but I bet they are going to struggle to grow the Premier package in the coming years without doing something truly innovative.

R4.4 Billion in profit in 6 months, but come April they will be increasing their fees. I think some real competition in the form of Netflix will see them lose their mid LSM subscribers as they look for cheaper alternatives.

I think, real competition will on the short term only come from Starsat, and Openview, internet is honestly not that common in the lower income households, especially fixed line ADSL internet. They might enter the web from their phone or a dongle, but ADSl really is for the middle incomes and above.
I would also be interested to see the subscription numbers of Dstv per package, incl the numbers for their cheapest offer, Easyview. In this small town, without a terrestrial Sentech signal, many people for sure can only afford this Easyview package. Or the new OVHD receiver.
Maybe Staff Writer can oblige on those subscription numbers.

4.5 Billion over 17 Billion turnover, or a 26% margin BUT i wonder what are the remuneration of the top mgt, 400K a month? 5?.

The 560 000 new subscribers are very kind to help dtsv execs maintain their lifestyle, after all, caviar and champagne prices go up all the time and bentleys insurance premiums are through the roof.
The 6.7 Million existing subscriber are already funding the cancun holidays and the luxury lifestyles.
All is well.
Thank god for starsat
