Referring to this thread and article:
https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/886510-Fibre-to-the-Home-%E2%80%93-From-ordering-to-rocking-100Mbps

I stay in the same estate as the author of the article. Afrihost took 6 weeks, from when the author ordered his FTTH to when he could do his first speedtest.

I placed my order with Axxess on 05/05/2017, the day I saw the Openserve website indicating fiber is available at my address. Lets see if Axxess is again deserved of the title of best ISP, as was the case in 2016. The clock is ticking.:)

Playing field is level. 2 of SA's best ISPs. Both requests using Openserve, both orders for 100Mbps, both in the same estate. Lets see if Axxess can beat 42 days.

The winner will be dependent on the whims of the Openserve scheduler and dispatcher, i.e. beyond the control of the ISP.

Not quite. Most of us prefer to use ISPs other than Telkom on our ADSL lines etc. The reason for this, from my experience at least is, that if there is a fault, the ISP will have the contacts at Telkom to get it sorted quickly. When I had all my interwebs in the Telkom basket, it took weeks for an issue to be resolved. Telkom's call center would not even pick up the phone.

Then I went over to Axxess and moved my line over too. Longest I've had to wait for a downed line to be fixed was 3 days, over a weekend. They have their "connections" at Telkom to sort things out.

So, I think Afrihost and Axxess have their clout at Openserve. Based on that, lets see who's got the most clout at Openserve. That is basically wat this comparison should show. Also, it would show who is most dedicated to service the client. If you do not follow up regularly, then issues would slip and a week would pass for issues to be resolved, as was the case in the article.

I think it could be a fair comparison between 2 ISPs and how dedicated they are to get a client connected to fiber. I will give Afrihost 1 week head start though, as I know my conduit from the Openserve manhole to my house is/should be open. My ADSL line runs through it currently and I put it in myself.

So, this is on individual applying for FTTH.

I assume this is the opening band, after which the main act (the MASSIVE FTTH SHOWDOWN!!!!!!@@!@!) will begin?

They have ZERO clout at Openserve. They have ZERO connections at Openserve.

People need to remember now Telkom is the consumer Business Unit of Telkom Group, meaning that if all the lines that are currently under Telkom will be transferred to the ISP the customer is using, and then the ISP will be the link between Openserve and the customer. Telkom (Consumer) will only be able to help customers that have data service with them, not those who only have a line

16 Days since placing the order. Had some issues with Axxess not being able to place the order with Openserve. That got resolved yesterday. Openserve just phoned to make an appointment for tomorrow for installation. On a Sunday nogals.

They will adjust. Waiting for Axxess to follow suit.

Also look at MWEB. They are sweetening the deal with a free router, which Axxess did not include. Axxess only did free installation.
