Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm GRAVY!

http://iafrica.com/news/sa/735287.htm

To be funded by the ever open-walleted SA taxpayer and my 80 year old mother's government pension that was taken away from her recently.

A massive pay hike for the head of State, President Thabo Mbeki and Members of Parliament has been proposed by a remuneration commission — that would take the president's package to R1.18-million to R1.89-million.

Personally I have no problem with the MP's and the president being paid that kind of sum, IF they are actually doing anything, atm they're all just a complete waste of time really....

Hmmm....maybe it is good Thabo "smoker" Mbeki actually does nothing. Everytime the ANC does something, they cause a lot of tension among groups and usually mess up whatever they plan to do.

More money for Ivy too
Minister's total package is scheduled to rise from R1.08-million to R1.45-million (or a rise of some 30.2 percent).
I'm sure we can all agree that someone working so tirelessly for the people deserves that, if not more.

Personally I thought that our President's Pay Packet was a bit on the light side.
However in saying that, who knows how many perks one gets being in the No.1 spot and the value of that?

Thinking back to all the threads about who should be the next President of South Africa etc, one has to question whether anyone of a CEO Calibre would accept a Pay Packet under R2Million in the first place.
Look at Eskom's CEO.
Even Telkom's CEO's, that can earn up to R11million in a year if I recall Sizwe's package.
There was talk of Cyril and Tokyo taking the No.1 spot, but I cannot see that happening as they wouldn't be able to pay those chaps enough.
What our President makes in a year, they make in a few days or a week.
Who knows. Those guys are rolling in it.

They can give President Mbeki a pay increase as long as the under performing Ministers get a decrease. E.g. Ivy et al

must be lovely to work for an organization that gives you huge increases no matter how badly you perform...

wow... spot the similarities between our government and... FIDENTIA!!

ROFL :D
But we couldn't put our Government under Curatorship. Hehe.
Our endless supply of hard earned tax monies funds the National Gravy Train and it's incumbents.

Do you think that earning a much better salary would make someone less susceptible to corruption or other gravy-train dealings? Or is there no end to some people's greed?

And of course it is always nice to see gov setting the example for conservative pay increases

I dont mind giving the leaders of our country a decent salary, as long as they are earning it. However, in my opinion, the only person that deserves his wages his Trevor Manuel (sorry if spelling of his name is incorrect). I havent seen anyone else in government actually doing anything worth while.

I feel this is looking at the problem the wrong way. Making sure people who are corrupt get caught and pay a heavy penalty is a better way of making people less susceptible to corruption.

People who want a position like president should be doing it for the public service, not because they want to swell their bank account.

I don't think higher pay will quell corruption.Anyone who would take money on the side is going to do it anyway. Better to have the means to catch them and jail terms that make it very unattractive.
