Massive Price Increase

"as soon as the rand strenghtens" - but who says it will strenghten?

only Lancelot can tell us.

Games such as Gears of War 2 will increase from R 699 - R 999

R 700 is way out of my price bracket right now, forget about when it is R 1000. If they do implement such a drastic price increase for games, then I will:

a) Regret ever buying a console
b) Chip my console and play GOW2 for R 50.

No seriously, piracy is one thing, exploitation is quite another.

The cost of the game is no excuse for pirating...it is just too easy to pirate something than to actually work for it...
If you want to pirate games - go play on your PC!

Gotta agree, and in SA we certainly do get taken for a ride

Ther is a choice to be made then gentlemen...
Bow out and go and buy a PC with a general upgrade cost every year of about R1500+ and spend R450 a game or stick with the 360 and not spend anything on upgrades and spend R700 for a game.

True, its gonna limit me to 1 game per month-2months :(

we all knew it was going to happen at some stage or the other...but remember when the story came out that it is going to cost R700+ for a game well the games ended up about R649 for the AAA titles and most of us still bought the titles we wanted or traded for them.

*feels sorry for console gamers*

they might say it's the end for PC, but with these prices, i might say it's the end for consoles (In South africa...)

flame away, I know im right.

Hehe, at least BTGames pre-paid will get massive business?

Howzit!!!
Yes, thanks for the trade - plugged FC2 in last night - it took a bit to get used to with the Malaria and all (cool game mechanic actually) but I am already slightly hooked. :D

How are you finding Fable 2?

Stated in the other thread ..... rent club it's gonna stay for me. I think it's fsckin disgusting raising prices so much but hey, we live in SA, so what's new.

Im liking it more than i thought i would, i thought the humour and british accents would annoy me but they actually make it better, loving it so far.

With the current price variance between console and PC games something has got to give. I think more people will chip their consoles and continue to use them. PCs are great but come with Byzantine hardware requirements and ridiculous DRM. No thanks, not for me.

Well they get my business currently. There are a couple more of the pre-played guys I will be trying out soon, especially the pure online ones like gametrader (I think).

@Kage - We are both in agreement about piracy and I don't for one second think that, that is the biggest threat to the global gaming industry. However, I bought a console based on an evaluation of the prices of new and second hand games. I thought that these were fair prices and entered into an "agreement" with the console maker.

I understand that currencies fluctuate, economies dip etc, and I am even willing to put up with above inflation (minor 1 - 2%) increases. However I draw the line at 100% price increases - that was not what I signed up for. Game publishers have the idea that paying customers must suffer for the sins of pirates, why does a paying customer have to subsidize the 50 pirates who did not pay for the game? That is between them and the pirates - leave me out of it.

All I want is a fair game at a fair price.

kds - i hear you and feel you I am in the same boat, feel sorry for the PS3 owner that is already looking at R800+ per game (LBP.)
