Massive Price Increase

It is simply reality. Make it more worthwhile to have the console chipped and people will do it. Then that will become the standard and they will struggle to change it back.

bollocks...the piracy has been "standard" practice for Pc games for years and it is not struggling to "change it back".
DRM is now direct effect because of pirating and that is why companies like MS will be looking at stronger anti-piracy measures.

Correct, they are not struggling, they have completely failed.

Now in the console market we have people who have been buying games because it has been less hassle. Now they'll be looking at the price of a game and the cost of a mod, thinking that maybe that mod is actually really worth it. And unlike PC games where you need a patch to fix the defect for each game once a console is chipped every game is patched.

And failing.

You overcharge for something that people can use without paying and doing just that becomes a habit for those people. They go from being willing and able to pay a reasonable price to not being willing to pay anything. We can whine and moan as much as we like that playing games without paying is wrong, that it's evil, that it's the same as stealing a car, but that is not going to change reality.

Yeah PS3 prices wont be affected but will supposedly come down. This is coming from one of the owners of Take 2

You are for pirating and i'm against it...gor for it mate :D
...I have access to LIVE and all the goodness that it gives....you err...might but not for long...

Been doing some research and it looks like its only going to affect the xbox360. What a relief, i wont be buy a console if games cost R1000.

Really? Then somebody should tell CNA and Musica, because they are selling them for R349 and R699

You know this whole price thing is making me seriously re-consider buying the ps3. I can now afford the console but wont be able to spend R900+ on a game.

You've got to shop around your gonna get the worst prices at cna, musica, look & listen. Check online you get way better deals eg

http://www.btgames.co.za/btgames/gamepage.asp?C04425

Little Big Planet = R765.00

http://www.btgames.co.za/btgames/gamepage.asp?C04995

Resistance 2 = R735.00

You can probably find better deals if you search more on the web and when these games become available 2nd hand they will be cheaper also blu-ray discs are extremely hard to scratch so 2nd hand is almost as good as new :D

Exclusives tend to be more expensive than multi-platform games as well so not all games are gonna be that expensive.

I had a look at UK prices for games. The local prices are getting high enough that it becomes worthwhile to consider importing again.

Correct, they are not struggling, they have completely failed.
They're really making it worse. Current copy protection severely punishes those of us stupid enough to pay for our games. It is less hassle, a lot less, to play copied games. Often in fact the only way to play what you've bought is to download a crack.

In the time I've owned an Xbox I've essentially used Live to download game patches. Tried the multiplayer and found it as quickly boring as LAN games - fun to do on occasion, but hardly worth paying for and certainly not something I'd be doing more than a few times a year. Now obviously quite a lot of people think multiplayer games are great, but not everyone.

Increasing the price is ridicules. I understand why, but it is now getting out of control.
I bought my xBox way back when games where R400 and that was fair. Games started to move to the R500-R700 range and I changed to the pre-played option, still keeping my budget limits in the R400 range. Now if games go up to R1000 pre-played is going to be directly affected and now we will be paying R600 for secondhand games. I really don’t want to resort to piracy to enjoy my xBox but what other choice is there?

Disappointing to say the least!!

P.S Do we know if this is going to affect the Wii as well??

Ther is a choice to be made then gentlemen...
Bow out and go and buy a PC with a general upgrade cost every year of about R1500+ and spend R450 a game or stick with the 360 and not spend anything on upgrades and spend R700 for a game.

or you can import them like I do. Seriously go check out some of the international sites ...it works really really well.

R1000 for a game?
It was an increase from R599 2 months ago
Can you say ridiculous?
We never had this in 2001 when R hot R16/$
