Word from the SA Communications Union that Telkom plans to fire half its work force in the next six months.

I read the Bloomberg report and your sentence above is not quite accurate. IIRC it says that the process to reduce the workforce will begin within six months time; not that 9000-odd workers will be retrenched within six months.
