Massive tremor in Jhb?

Preliminary reports indicate an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale occurred just now around boksburg (epicenter) at around 2:38 am.

I was fully awake when it occurred, was eerily interesting to experience.

Edit: Should be some aftershocks coming soon to a gauteng suburb near you :cautious:.
 
That woke me up. My door and walls just started quivering like a mofo for what felt like 30 seconds . Hectic!
 
Funny did anyone also else hear birds making noise during and after? Not sure if it was them or the quake who woke me

The was one about 9/10 years ago that had a few aftershocks but this definitely felt more intense...

We have a familiy of bush babies in the trees. They're normally chatty during the night. Haven't heard them since.

That it happened in the dead of the night meant is was always going to be more dramatic. As luck would have it, I wasn't asleep at the time. It was intense. Geesus. Hadedas went nuts, my cat bolted off the bed and hasn't returned.

Wife and daughter faaaast asleep...

I remember reading an article that many animals especially dogs can often sense the very very initial release of energy just before the quake starts being felt.
 
Now it says M5.0 and epicentre 2km from Alberton. Fscking scary because that's about how far I am from Alberton...
