re finding up - no different in 60 ft and 10 ft other than when the ocean floor is way below you....i don't know the break (about 3kms offshore line of sight from where i am sitting ) but looks like a slab of rock rising up

a couple of the big wave crew are parents at my one kid's school - look pretty gentle and normal for people who are evidently insane

Are you sure it's not just a really small guy making the wave look bigger? (jokes).

When I see this stuff on TV I always think that the issue is the speed the guys go at to stay in front of the mother suckers (surfing term apparently) as opposed to the sheer size of the wave - it just water after all. When I look at the picture though it makes me think it's speed, power, guts, gasoline and insanity.
