Matrix 4 gets a release date

It was probably one of the few movies being kunfu/gunplay centered where neo does nothing more than force-push? I wonder what the idea was for him to be disarmed, and not much flying from the tree tops while kicking ass. I still think that the alt-neo/failed the one should have taken center stage and not saving private trinity.

Can't wait for directors commentary or at least something that finally explains what they were aiming for with previous three and this one.

As for the NuStaWars: I'd rather stick to original three with the prequals supplementing. At least we got Mandalorian out of that mess...
Keanu isn't a spring chicken anymore. My suspicion is that he simply isn't up to the martial arts as much anymore. Either that, or because this is a different kind of movie, they spent less time and money on getting the fighting right as it was secondary to the love story.
Overall I thought that the story was fine, but the cinematography and editing were quite bad at times - way, way worse than the first Matrix movie.

I wonder if this isn't just more snowflake-is-right messaging, they are trying so hard to push those and related messages.
Well... funny thing is that, identity politics, who it was for and so on didn't bother me the least in the movie. From a story telling point, the directory, their message, etc I would really like to understand why he was so underwhelming. I like to talk about movies and better understand valid failures and their criticisms. Why I said I'll weigh in on what I said was ****ed and how Chris Stuckmann rates it. There isn't really (for me at least) a point in doing the same with someone like Angry Joe who seems to just like about everything / dislike just about everything where as CS seems to do it more from an actual film making point of view. Therein imho is where M4 fails. If you (and it is not you) don't like this then either ignore me or kindly ****off.

I guess we can measure this against john wick 4? You are probably correct...

I don't buy into this kak for one second. It is just another selling point as to saying hey look we've got trans in our movie or whatever and now everyone is fixating generating content. The central point of matrix is hardly love. Sigh, I wish I had that site which was really cool with its analysis paralysis on the matrix.

Agreed. I loved binary and a few other things. It just fails for at the technical points and sadly brings it down. Do I expect too much? I am I too critical? Perhaps we all enjoy our bad/popcorn at times and this is just it.

I hear you. But...

1. I don't applaud tricky profiteers on the whole.

2. Terminator, it made sense, more modern timeline can reflect reality as it's less sci-fi-ish in that respect. Star Wars, I thought over the top there too but not much of a fan, more into Star Trek. For Matrix, it's a disgraceful disrespect, story complete or not, too many things are over-engineered by Hollyweird these days.

Will watch it when the sting / stink wears off :p
You could nit pick any franchise and look for and find faults. ST: Discovery is a woke mess and woke is one of the things Matrix 4 is accused of being.

Ironically there's actually not much woke at all but the detractors will scavenge for it.

Now there's talk of Trinity being the feminist saviour of Neo, even though she kicked ass in M1 just as much as he did.

You can't win but it's refreshing that Matrix 4 wasn't a complete disaster and I'm looking forward to watching it again.

Why I decided not to watch it, hear the most recent season stinks. Liked Janeway in ST Voyager though..

I'm realising that now, again. Still, the self-referential seems to suggest that line of thought, but will take your word for it.

One of the selling points of M1 was the concept and amazing effects like bullet time, with the gaping plot holes and some absurdities playing second fiddle.

We've reached a ceiling in terms of what is possible in terms of visual effects and especially within the Matrix universe, so the story has to take centre stage, and here the story is intriguing so opens up further possibilities. I now want to know more about how the Matrix has evolved.

Sentinels are now allies and look like insects. Morpheus is now shape shifting advanced hybrid thing. The Matrix is no longer a threat to humanity since humans cannot win so we accept the virtual reality. It's our comfort zone.

1. Which is why ST movie franchise is as good dead. In their pursuit of satisfying the core fans it closed off the possibilities of expanding the universe.
So the alternative is go woke or go broke.

2. FF9 did something similar. It's a self aware parody of itself asking the audience questions like what you're going to do when we take you out of your comfort zone.

Well... FF is popcorn anyways from the get go and couldn't be taken serious in any regard.

Can't agree. They just had to try make an extension of the popular ST: TNG but they wouldn't hear of it, and going for woke has caused failure so not getting you?

As for ST: Picard, couldn't get past E3 but that was the fall-asleep storyline so nothing to do with this.

Don't know FF personaly, but against the whole idea. Belongs in VR games & apps IMO.

At some point all series has to call it a day and move on.
They already explored other ST arcs so what now?

Which is why The Orville is proving so popular. It's basically a send up of ST.

True.
Forgot about The Orville, yes also a fan and there's a new season coming.
At least that was done quite well, they really messed up with the other "comedy" one about the marooned tourist space ship whatever that was called.

Anyway maybe it's my age, not into changing my movies this much.

I take it you have watched Lower Decks?

Matrix Resurrections 5/10. Some parts are comically awful and the special effects feel distinctly b-grade but it has a pulse thanks to the performances of Keanu and Carrie so it’s not as bad as I feared.
Will reply here to keep the review thread cleaner. But I'm interested to see more reviews breaking down the fx and why it looked so bad. One of the obvious things right from the start was this really clunky slow motion thing they do that looks b-grade...

(no sound)

Some of the landings also seemed to lack some of the heft & impact compared to the originals.

The color grading is also very neutral in this vs the green tint of the earlier movies. Was obviously a conscious choice to do this, but for me it comes across as 'too normal'. The grading of the earlier movies added to the atmosphere.
